We visited La Cocina on a Tuesday evening. We were not disappointed. The menu choice is superb. We had risotto and avocado salad to start and the flavours were fantastic. For mains we had steak strips and blackened Cajun chicken. Both again superb. The owners are very professional but friendly too. We would recommend it 100% and will definitely visit again.

Situated just off the main road in a very pretty little plaza so not the easiest place to find. Taken there by friends so didn't really know what to expect. Staff very friendly and a nicely laid out restaurant with lots of room between tables. We ordered off the menu Del dia which wasn't printed but recited by the waitress. The choice was very limited, only 2 choices for each course. I had the fish soup to start which was really good followed by the meatballs which again were very good. Surprisingly there was a choice of 5 or 6 desserts. Overall the food was really good just think there should be a minimum of 3 dishes to choose from for each course. Will definitely go again but maybe when we can sit outside as the plaza is very pretty.

Obviously I'm exaggerating, and probably demonstrating my ignorance, but we were quite turned off by the tasting menu here. Everything semed conscientiously prepared, but to our palates, most items were bitter or metallic in taste, heavy in consistency, and pasty in texture. I dined here a la carte a few years ago; while I found the recipes a bit too eccentric and daring on that occasion as well, I was satisfied ehough to want to give the place a second try. This chef seems to have set off in his own direction--fine if you like it, but we won't be back!

I'm sitting here planning my visit to Javea next month, and realized that I never reviewed this patisserie that I love so much! Must be because I don't think of it as a restaurant, although I know it has tables. The location isn't picturesque, but pleasant and close to the beach. Cordial and efficient service. I always buy several items so I'll have some goodies to accompany morning coffee for the next few days. They can compete with the best of France. My mouth is watering just thinking about my next visit--yum!

Tula Restaurante

Reviewed By felipehavana - Javea, Spain

Came here for dinner following good reviews, especially from Spanish contributors; seems as though it may be a case of "the emperors new clothes".
First impression was that the menu looked interesting, offering a good range of dishes, however on closer inspection there was not much that is not available in so many other local cafes, bars and restaurants at a third of the price.
We chose a range of dishes that seemed a bit different and were absolutely flabbergasted when they started to arrive. The portions were of tapas size; but hang on, we were paying prices that suggested the dishes were "racion" sized. Not only were the portions miniscule but the actual dishes were of very poor quality: the small piece of ray my wife was served, as a main course, was in a tasteless broth and had almost as much cartilage as flesh which is inexcusable at any time let alone when it cost more than a full menu del dia at very good restaurants. The duck and eel sausage had not a hint of the flavour of either, the fabada was tasteless and of a portion size (three lardons of meat and three faba beans in a cup of stock) more usually associated with an amuse bouche and the callos (tripe), as everything else, lacked seasoning but was the best dish we had. I am not averse to paying top prices for creative, great tasting, well prepared food, using the best ingredients, even if portions are not huge; I will even travel a long way to do so, we got none of that, except for the price.
The service was mediocre, waitress not sure what the dishes were and the bread did not arrive until midway through the final dish. Don't know if she was nervous as it was obvious that we were not exactly ecstatic about the situation having on more than one occasion asked "where the rest was" or "is that it" when dishes were delivered.
When we had finished the dishes we had ordered, still being hungry I hesitate to describe it as a meal, a lady who was obviously of a higher pay grade than the waitress came to our table and asked for our feedback which we gave.
Throughout the meal my wife had commented that the place smelt of toilets and sewage, she now informed the lady (have to call her that as she did not introduce herself) who, failing to address the comments about the food, save to apologise that we had not enjoyed it, advised us that they had for a few days experienced as yet unidentified problems with the toilet waste which they were hoping to identify and rectify in the near future. She then, rather unhelpfully, told us that the table we were sitting at was particularly badly affected by the smell. At this moment we were the only diners in the restaurant and did wonder why we had been seated there. There was also the concern that a restaurant with unidentified sewage problems thought it OK to keep preparing and delivering food.
The decor was minimal but effective and on a positive note whilst everything else provided such poor value, surprisingly the wine list had a good selection at reasonable prices.
On leaving Tula we were still hungry and felt cheated at having paid a cost hugely disproportionate to the quantity and quality; and therefore value. It wouldn't have been so bad if we could have come away having had great tasting food but we didn't and so
I will not be back and would not recommend this place to anyone.
If you do choose to go here for a meal don't say you weren't warned. In any event have a good sized snack first.
