We visited the Orkneys In June and thank goodness this Seafood Bistro was on our list of places to visit. Not all of us were fish eaters but my seafood platter was lovely.
The bistro is not huge, but it is beautifully designed with stunning views of the sea.
Highly recommended

Really kind and attentive proprietor and his two young sons who looked after us well and could chat in Russian or German or French and English but no Gaelic or Welsh, no matter. Very helpful daily agenda and eclectic, lovely meals. We had Moroccan lamb tagine and David (prop) has many fine wines and he loves to talk about. Don't miss it. Rooms with a view, no less.

Were amazed to find this excellent coffee shop on a quiet road in Orkney. Coffee was just perfect- best we had on our visit to Orkney. Cakes and scones looked really good- all home cooked and a great variety. They were hard to resist but we managed a still too soon after breakfast

We popped in here for coffee. It is just what you hope to find when out and about. Beautifully clean and with food and drinks personally prepared by someone who cares. We had freshly baked flapjack - delicious. The village is pretty so overall a good stop off point. Lunch menu looked good too.

The Missing Bell

This restaurant is unique in its approach to well sourced local food. From freshly caught local seafood such as Orkney scallops to line caught sea bass and salmon, this award-winning dining experience is second to none. I am told they know all their local suppliers personally! But it's not just the immaculate presentation - each Japanese dish, for instance, is a work of art - it is the memory of the flavours that you will take with you, that make this destination restaurant a special place. If you have 'fine dining' as one of the items on your bucket list, put this restaurant on it. If food provenance interests you, the owners Patrick and Keiko provide not just the skills in the kitchen, but will also give you the background to every dish served - especially engaging when you sit down to a 20 plus course Japanese dinner. The ambiance is ideal for couples looking for that special place to call their own.

Murray Arms Gun Deck Restaurant

The Murray Arms Gun Deck Restaurant serves some of the freshest seafood around. Daily Specials and a menu that changes with seasonal influences.

We were staying nearby so my lovely wife and I popped into the Murray Arms for dinner. The food was ok but nothing special. I had the trout with a bean & celery salad. It was fine but a bit on the small side. My wife had the crab hot pot which was crabmeat served hot in a pot with some pastry on top. Little in the way of sauce or seasoning but I guess it did what it said on the can! We then shared an uninspiring cheese board which offered five very similar local smoked cheeses. All in all it felt like the efforts of a keen amateur rather than a professional chef. Three stars.
