We went as a family, 2 adults and 2 kids for the Hommage à Paul Bocuse 69.50$ tasting menu, kids eat free. The menu for adults felt stale. I thought the tasting menu would be inspired by Bocuse, not the actual identical recipes. Everything was rich french fare, very classic, nothing reinvented. I mean, the quenelle was just that, the fricassé as well. We did not feel surprised, felt like the meal was geared to a MUCH older crowd, almost geriatric in its choices (very soft food, no change of textures) and sadly lacking in vegetables. Kids meals were ok, same exact mushroom risotto as last year, with a different soup. Even the desserts were almost identical and were more quantity than quality. I get the cotton candy is a wow factor visually, but it tastes the same as the regular pink cotton candy we buy in fairs. Why not do something unexpected with this? Have fun and experiment? All in all, we were sad to see how outdated the restaurant and the food have become. We wont be going back.

Decided to start our holiday with dinner here, and we went for the four course set. We had:
Green salads
Goat's cheese profiteroles
Braised lamb ravioli
Bison steak
Rack of lamb
Chocolate cake
and
Apple cake (tarte tatin)
The standouts were the profiteroles, which were served with beet mousse and sauce (normally, we're not into beets, but they provided a sunny and sweet flavor in this dish),
the bison steak, with an array of vegetables, the rack of lamb, which is an impressively generous portion, and the desserts. Also amazing was the fact that it was under $70 per person for meals of high quality. In Washington, DC, this meal would have easily been double the price.
It should also be noted that the servers were lovely. A sweet restaurant in an unassuming location. Highly recommended for a leisurely meal. Thank you, Montréal!

Bonaparte

Four star French classic restaurant located in Old Montreal.

We really enjoyed our dinner at Bonaparte. The service, cocktails, wine, appetizers and meal (Scallop delight with truffle oil and mushroom fricassee) were all quite excellent. We initially were uncertain about ordering the Lobster salad with hazelnut oil and maple syrup dressing (maple syrup in dressing?) but our waiter assured us it was not sweet -- and he was right. We ordered off the ala carte menu but there is also a tasting menu and a table d’hôte that changes daily.

Le Club Chasse Et Peche

Reviewed By CaroltheMTLfoodie - Montreal, Canada

I have been fortune enough to have eaten at Chasse et Peche several times over the years. I have always been blown away by my experiences, touting it as one of Montreal's finest restaurants. I send people there, telling them that not only is the food spectacular but that the service is second to none. So, when a friend invited me for my birthday, needless to say that I was ecstatic. And then so, so disappointed. Upon arrival, it took a long time to get our coats checked and ourselves seated. No idea why. The hostess seated us with a wine list, and then no one came back. After a good 10 mins, if not longer, I had to stop a waiter, who said he wasn't our waiter, just to ask for water and order cocktails. "Our" waiter eventually came back with the cocktails, set them down, and was about to walk away. I had to stop him to ask for menus. Another long stretch of time went by before a third waiter came to take our orders. I asked if there were any specials, as no one had bothered to tell us yet at that point. He described them to us, we ordered, and that was about it. Service gets 1 star. The food was fantastic, though. The scallops, risotto, lobster, etc, all excellent. However, when I go to this caliber of restaurant, it's about more than the food. It is an experience, and the service plays a big role in that. I won't be rushing to go back.

The setting was beautiful and romantic. The service friendly and attentive. Every dish was a work of art....looking fabulous. But to be honest, of the 5 courses two were over the top delicious and the other courses were beautiful looking but not as tasty. The dish of the night was the mushroom appetizer...and the main. Dessert really disappointed...I just didn't like the taste! The 2 good dishes really inspired....but we were disappointed with the others....though they looked beautiful!

My husband and I really enjoyed our experience at Bouillon Bilk. The before dinner drinks were great, first course was spectacular, and the scallops were perfect. We also had the truffle linguini which was rich and hearty. We would definitely return when in Montreal. We really liked the design of the restaurant as well with the bar area in the middle of the space.

Arrived at Le Filet last evening expecting a delicious meal knowing this spot was related to one of our favorites, Club Chasse et Pêche - was not disappointed! Service by each member of the team attending to our area was charming, helpful and prompt. Menu choices, although not numerous, were varied and appealing, so difficult to make a choice. The three of us enjoyed ours immensley. The only criticism we had was the noise level and constant thumping of electronic music, which is a downer when you want to have a conversation over dinner but have to shout over voices and drumming sounds. We got over it but wished it was a bit calmer. We’ll definitely be back to try other menu items - surprised ourselves with their onion rings - so unexpected, but yummy!

Good wine selection. Martinis well made.
