El Paraiso

Reviewed By Lokamitra - Vadodara, India

I was put in this hotel by my company as all the usual hotels we use for our one night crew-change where full due to a conference. I often take a taxi to the "Cultural Francaise" restaurant but this night I was tired and decided to eat in the hotel.
The poolside restaurant was not busy. In fact there were a a couple of girls lounging about with some guy who might have been the manager, or customer. I sat down and waited. No one came to me despite I could see people idle behind the counter of the open-air kitchen. I got up and went to counter and asked for a beer. At this point one fo the girls lounging around came up to the counter to take a beer to the man sitting with them. She sat down with that group again. She had that far away look and miserable expression on her face as though she was very disappointed with her life!
I collected my beer from the counter and took a menu for myself and sat down. When I had decided what I wanted I went back to the counter and ordered from the the person in kitchen. He started fanning the barbecue as the coals where not hot yet and I wanted a barbecued fish. I sat down again and waited. The beer glass became empty and one of the girls came over to take it. It was at this point I realised that the girls where waitresses!!
Some more customers came in. A couple of Spanish guys who I spoke to for a couple of minutes and then they sat down and waited for there food. He told me that the service was terrible and last time they got the wrong food. I wondered why he had come back.
When I went to the counter to see how my food was getting on I found one of the waitresses was squirting some kind of fuel onto the barbecue to get it going. Needless to say when eventually my fish came the skin stank of fuel and I tried to eat the flesh only but it smelt bad.
On top of this there was music coming from the kitchen side that was ok and seemed to have been chosen by the staff there but in my other ear was some very loud and nasty hip-hop. Very uncomfortable having two different types of music at the same time when you are trying to relax and eat.
In future I won't eat there!

You will get nice pizza at a reasonable price. Place has nice music and is visited by both locals and expats, you will rarely see it empty. A nice variety of options for your pizza and can always enjoy a cold beer.

I've been going once a week since I got here. No one I have been with has had any complaint on any of the food. Good service, Outstanding food even compared to Europe not Africa. I will continue to go back at least once per week. It is easy to spend 25K CFA (50 USD) per person on a dinner, but it is very nice. I plan to go tomorrow.

It must easily be the coolest place to eat in Malabo. Nice view of the port, big Terrace and comfortable elegant indoor restaurant and bar. The food is quite allright but nothing special. And it is expensive...I guess it is fine for a special occasion or for a late afternoon or night drink, but not for regular meals.

I am a resident, and after trying all restaurants in Malabo, over 10 months, I must say that Bidji Biña's kitchen is the best in town. Not only pizza and pasta dishes are well prepared, but the fish and steaks are excellent. Staff is well-trained, and the lunch buffet on weekdays is a plus. Pequeño, pero funciona bien!

A bit out of the way, but one of the top dining experiences in Malabo. Great variety of tasty Cuban dishes, and as someone who lived in Havana for 10 years, I can testify as to its authenticity. Menu includes classics such as ropa vieja, congri and platanos fritos. Also has a terrific ambience, with salsa music in the background, Wifi connection, and TV to watch sports events. Attentive service by Cuban expats and local staff.

Technically this is located in Malabo Dos begin the new S.African Embassy but still this is the best food spot within Malabo. The first time you visit, you know this was not built or managed by Africans. It actually reminds me of a typical restaurant that you find in Madrid.
The food is very pricey but on par with La Luna. The chef and staff make it there business to ensure you want to come back. The wait staff is prompt, and customer service orientated.
if I could rate this on a scale of 1-10 it's a 11 when you compare it to the all of the others.

Located just a few minutes from the airport is a nice green environment.
The hotel is not new but it's quite well maintained.
The rooms have space enough and denote the years.
Nice swimming pool with a bar when meals are served.
Food wise could be better and the service more efficient
I would say that is quite expensive for the quality but we mustn't forget that we are in Africa. By the way Malabo seem to be a nice city well designed and organised
