We stopped here several times over four days, twice for breakfast/coffee and once for lunch. The staff is very helpful, their prices are high (normal for Hawaii), the internet is fast, and their offerings are fresh and tasty. We did not try their ice cream but it too looked yummy.

If you are headed to the big island, for goodness sake, make a reservation at Sushi Rock. Seriously, this is something special. SR provided some of the best food we've had on a vacation and if it were located closer to home, we'd be there...MoreWow......the detail and effort in your review blow me away.I am humbled by your words and appreciate them more then you know.

This little old fashioned ice cream parlor and coffee shop has the best selection of Tropical Dreams flavors found on the Big Island. We loved the Green Tea Ice Cream, but the Coconut was good, too. Several sorbet flavors were available. All of the shops in Hawi look like they have been around for decades and this is no exception, but that's part of this town's charm.
Would have loved to try the ice cream because of the great reviews, but we were never served or even acknowledged. The place wasn’t crowded, and the few customers there already had their drinks and were chatting. There was only one person and another couple ahead of us waiting to order, but the two young women were busy with coffee orders, I guess, and never even acknowledged our presence, despite our standing at the counter for over 10 minutes. No Aloha spirit there.
Maybe the ice cream is good and is worth the wait, but it wasn’t worth being ignored for so long, so we left.

Come to Bamboo for a feeling of the "Real Hawaii". Located in a historic building, we offer lunch, dinner and Sunday Brunch, and we invented the Passion Fruit Margarita and Mojito. Browse the gallery for local art and crafts. Come and find the aloha of the islands!
We were exploring the island and stopped in this small town just to browse. It happened to be around lunch, so we looked for a place to eat and walked into this local restaurant called Bamboo. What a treat. Servers were excellent and the owner (who is very proud of her O’Hara who were there) went to every table to make sure every one was satisfied with there food. We were also blessed with a surprise hula show by some locals that perform in the international contest every year that are personal friends of the owners. Was so much fun. Only down side, they charge $1.00 for soda refills, which I think is a little silly. Restaurants make enough money they shouldn’t have to barge extra for a refill. Yes, I would go back.

What a great lunch we had here. We started with the pickle tray- an assortment of pickled veggies- okra, green beans, cucumbers, and sauerkraut made with cabbage and carrots and papaya. So good! Then we had the quinoa salad which was lemony and so tasty- served over a variety of peppery greens with fresh tomatoes. We also had the curried polenta- really tasty.
What a great place. Fresh food, great choices, not expensive! Excellent service too.

Just To The Sea Side Of The Liquor Store/convenience Store
We stopped off in Hawi on a leisurely Monday afternoon and found this place by accident. Wonderful tasty great value Mexican food. Freshly cooked by a friendly couple of ladies. Would thoroughly recommend it. Much better than some of the other places in the town.

We randomly pulled into a gas station on our way from Hilo to Kona on the northern route and found this gem. Honestly, the best chicken and pork ribs you'll ever had for a very reasonable price ($10 for a huge plate of rice, ribs and salad). We also got their noodles which were amazing.
They were so good that we got some to go and ate it at the Honolulu airport prior to going back to Canada!

Voted Hawaii's Best Kava Bar by the Hawaii Island Journal. The Kava Kafe has been serving the finest kava since 2004.
This place is a cute shop nothing like your Starbucks in terms of decor but the coffee is incredible! The baked goods are homemade in flavor. But, what you really need to try here is the Kava. They make the drink in house and it is potent (FYI I think it taste like dirt smells). This is one of those places that you must visit because almost everybody who stops in Hawi does!
