We frequently stop at Kendall's in Georgiana, but decided to try this BBQ joint instead. We were very pleased. Huge BBQ and smoked chicken sandwiches. Great sides, like Broccoli casserole, squash casserole, field peas, mac 'n cheese. Not much seating, but good food and service. Huge menu for such a small place. Next time we are having ribs.

My wife and I were looking for something different from the interstate restaurants and we found this place on the AroundMe app. It isn't very far from the interstae and is in the middle of downtown Greenville. I had the Rueben and my wife had a bacon club sandwich. Both were ok but nothing special. Service was good.

Wintzell's Oyster House

Reviewed By Donald S - Columbia, Missouri

I had heard and read good reviews of the Wintzell's location in Mobile, so when I saw this location in Greenville I thought I would stop for dinner. Unfortunately, this was a mistake.

I went in, was seated, and waited... and waited... and waited. Almost 45 minutes elapsed without being waited upon - no one offered me a drink, no one came to take my order, I was summarily ignored. After 45 minutes had gone by - during which time I saw other diners who had arrived after me seated and fed - I decided to leave. I asked to speak to a manager, and told him that if they didn't want to serve me, I understand, I just wish I had known before I wasted 45 minutes of my life here. He asked if there was anything he could do, and I replied "Sorry, but no." and left.

When I dine at a restaurant, there is a certain minimum level of service I've come to expect. I understand that service may not always be immediately forthcoming depending upon certain variables - crowd size and staffing being the two most common. However, on this afternoon, the restaurant was about half full, and there appeared to be more than enough wait staff present and available.

While I was sitting at my table waiting for a server, three different servers walked by without stopping. Now, imagine this - if you see a patron sitting at a table that was previously unoccupied, with a menu on the table, and without a beverage - what conclusions can you draw? And if 10, 15, 20 minutes elapse and you still see this patron at their table, when does it become incumbent upon you, the server, to ask if they have been waited upon? Regardless of whether or not it is your section or table, a good server will make it their responsibility to make sure that ALL patrons are taken care of.

But three different servers walking by and ignoring a patron? Completely unacceptable!

Perhaps 99.99% of the time Wintzell's provides quality, efficient, and prompt service. I don't know, but what I can state is that I am the .01% that "fell through the cracks". I was looking forward to a good meal. Sadly, that was not to be.

I cannot speak as to the quality, taste, or portion size of the food. Nor can I comment on the beverages offered - I never made it that far along in my dining experience.

What I can say is that based upon the total lack of service I received, not only can I not recommend Wintzell's, but the next time I am in Greenville and I want seafood, I'll go to McDonald's and order a Filet of Fish sandwich. McDonald's may not have as wide a selection of seafood, but at least their service is quick.

About an hour south of Montgomery is a great sandwich shop with fresh Turkey from their farm nearby---they also have frozen things like pot pies, casseroles and the like---still as good as the other times we've stopped---try the gobbler (w/dressing, Turkey, cranberry sauce and more)

On our trips North we stop in at Greenville for lunch frequently. However, our lunch stop for some time has been at another eating place in Greenville. We tried this Ruby Tuesday for a change and were very pleased. Nice clean environment. Courteous wait people. Fairly easy to get to from the interstate. We will return to this Ruby Tuesday.

Cracker Barrel

Cracker Barrel is normally pretty spot on as far as dining goes, in particular service. Here, not so much. Order wrong, drinks go empty and unfilled, etc, etc, etc. The food, when it all finally showed up was fine, but it would have been nice to get everything at once. FWIW, it appears the problem was no management on the floor, at the hostess stand, or anywhere for that manner.

Jessie's place may be tiny, but his wood-smoked BBQ is the best. Freshly cooked, not over-cooked. We get BBQ pork, coleslaw, and beans to take home (Greenville) or to the beach . The family loves it. And the lemonade!

The cats lurking around the smoke house are an additional treat.

If you are looking for some smoking BBQ, then look no further. Everything from the pull pork sandwich, chicken, ribs are fantastic!! The BBQ sauce is house recipe that you'll want more of (they sell it by the pint and quart to take home). If you're in Greenville or passing through on I-65 North or South hit this exit on a Friday or Saturday night and splurge on Jeff's 14oz Ribeye steak with the sides. In my opinion he can out do any great steak house and at a fair price. Also make sure to get a slice of that lemon pound cake if you got room left.

I definitely recommend this place. I was pleasantly surprised at my vegetarian fajita - it has so many different veggies all blended well together is a very tasty sauce. It came with the standard plate of beans, rice, lettuce, tomato with an unexpected addition of guacamole. A large portion and only $7.00! Draft beer good and also reasonable. The service was exceptional.

I'm only writing this review for travelers looking for a quick buffet lunch to read it. Here's the message: If you're in a hurry, don't stop here!
The buffet was $6, but when we arrived at noon there were 1-1/2 burnt pieces of pizza left. We got salad and breadsticks (there was also some pasta there, but we were there for pizza), and 5 minutes later hot pizza came out. About 9-10 people lined up to get the 2 pizzas. Then a few minutes later there was more pizza, which I was able to get. Well, maybe this sounds unbelievable, but about 20 minutes later there was no pizza left, and I timed it: it took 10 minutes for new pizza to be placed on the buffet!
However, the pizzas were delicious, although all pretty much the same types, not much variety.
The only reason I'm not giving this a 1/5 is the staff. The waitress (only 1) ran all over the place, up and down, taking care of people's drink needs, and the manager (I think she was the manager) seemed to be cooking ALL the pizzas, along with checking everybody out and who knows what all else. The air conditioner in the back was broken that day and they were stifling---but they handled it with grace. Kudos to them, and shame on the owners not to hire adequate staff.
