Colburn Cafe

This is a cafe that is part of the Colburn School of Performing Arts, open to the general public as well as students.

In restaurant-packed downtown Los Angeles you'd think there would be lots of choices near the Music Center, Disney Concert Hall, The Broad and MOCA. You would be wrong. Aside from the pricey Patina and Kendalls, and a couple kiosks open before curtain call, there's nothing much else within walking distance.

But directly across the street from The Broad is the hidden Colburn Cafe in the courtyard of The Colburn music school. And it's open to the public. It's open all day neatly everyday -- serving three meals at bargain prices: $4-9. Quesadillas, burgers, stir fry, grilled salmon, soups and salads plus lots of deserts, snacks, fresh fruit and juices. Popular with students and families -- and lately -- art lovers taking a break from the museum crowds.

Rosa's Hamburger Stand

Reviewed By Will S - Pipe Creek

We stopped by around 11am, following Google Maps. We had seen a couple of good reviews and wanted to give it a go! The lady at the window was super professional and very sweet! In about 10 minutes we received our order to go of 2 cheeseburgers and fries. We wanted to try the tacos too, but it is a cash only operation, so we only had $20 on us. The burgers were juicy, cheesy, full veg (tomato, lettuce, pickles) and 2 separate bags of pickled jalapenos. We think they may be home pickled because they had some carrot in there as well. All the better!!! The fries were seasoned fries and ohhhh sooo goood! It is an older building and shack like, but I would send Guy from Triple D here to give them the props they deserve! We'll be back soon Rosa and staff!!!

Jalisco Grill

Reviewed By Manbyk - San Antonio, Texas

South of San Antonio is jam packed with Mexican restaurants and in the city of Dilley, Texas there are two which stand out. One of them is the Jalisco Grill. Definitely not fancy on the inside or outside, the allure is what comes out of the kitchen. The daily special was the Texas plate (Tejas plata), which consisted of wonderfully tender pieces of beef in a nice gravy/sauce, rice, beans, salad, a drink, under $8.00. Service was prompt, seating comfortable, a chance to dine alongside the men who work the oil fracking boom. Definitely will return.

We stopped in a rainstorm to get off i35, and didn't want to eat the usual mediocre 'freeway fare' so we stumbled on this place... Although it won't win any awards for decor, the BBQ beef taco was beautifully tender meat cooked to perfection. No question the cool old Mexican dude in the kitchen knew what he was doing! We liked the fact that there was a cool retro neon jukebox in the corner, and the worn red vinyl upholstery on the bar-stools, combined with the sea-blue bar and funky wood laminate tables with conference hall chairs gave a certain retro-hipster feel that we'd probably pay dearly for in Toronto.
The waitress was very nice, and her service was 'no-nonsense' efficient!:)

Subway

Reviewed By Bernardo F - New York City, New York

It's in a gas station, so it's fairly clean, but not wonderful. It's all to go as there's no seating. I'd probably say to skip it if you're not starving.
