have used this pub a few times for a drink, and its bearable when not busy, but forget it for food
they seemed completely incapable of providing for the 6 or 7 tables of people on a friday lunchtime
it took 45 minutes for some massively over salted chicken tenders to arrive as a starter, with the garlic mayo completely forgotten, then another 30 minutes for the two mains too arrive, and hey who doesnt like chicken with pink bits still showing?
at least i avoided the lamb shank, the poor people who had waited an eternity had the worst cooked things ive ever seen, half of it looked raw
another table complained about the wait and were offered free drinks, we werent
then when we left, no goodbye, no thank you, no acknowledgement at all, the barman just turned away and headed to the kitchen without a word
an embarrassment to the culinary options and local produce of the area

Visited again last night and as usual received excellent friendly service from sue.
Franks Food as always was excellent using local in season produce.
We chose the special figs stuffed with Brie for starters - delicious.
Sirloin steaks for main - succulent and no steak knife required.
Decided to share crepes for dessert as couldn't manage one each.
Thank you frank and sue again for your hospitality.
See you soon

Been here many times before but don`t think we`ll be returning. The staff took a bit of time to take our drink order and then a long time to bring the two drinks. Then it took ages for food order to arrive, even though there was nearly as many staff as customers. Food was ok though nothing special. We were going to have a coffee after dinner but none of the waitresses even looked our way they were just stood around the bar chatting....didn`t even clear the plates. Very disappointed.

The Dining Room at The Oak House

Reviewed By blondambition - north west

Went for dinner on a Wednesday. Had to send the soup back as it was cold. My steak was hard, dry and overcooked. The worst I have ever been served. i think the waitress knew as she kept asking me in everything was ok. After the soup I was to embarrassed to complain again. After a long journey just wanted to eat up and get out. What a waste of £22.00 on a steak. They say you can tell how good a chef is by the way they can cook a steak. If thats the case this one needs to go back to school. Could do better myself and thats really saying something. Shame as it looked a nice place

We were very lucky to stay here in our motorhome via Britstops and we received an incredibly warm, friendly welcome. All of us, children and dog included were really well looked after. The food was just AMAZING!!! Fantastic home cooked food, everything made from scratch and huge portions. Excellent value for money and we are planning our next trip to go back already!

The Lamb

Old fashioned coaching inn dating from 1480, with the expected smattering of traditional beams, fireplaces, and traditional accoutrements. The Lamb is the focal point of the town, situated in the heart of the square, and opposite the famous King John’s Hunting Lodge.

Reviewed By Pete C - Bath, United Kingdom

When we visited it was busy for a weekday which is always a good sign, especially as many appeared to be local to the area.
Free parking nearby, though check the length allowed.the Square is only 1 hour parking, but there's a free car park 50/100 yards away opposite in Moorland Street
They have a good selection of beers and ciders.
Reasonable sized eating areas, the menu offers a lot of choice with many old favourites as well as burgers/grills,ploughman's & sandwiches. Vegetarian options as well as gluten free options.
Service was friendly and efficient & we all enjoyed the choices we made, all were well cooked and presented.Although the burgers came on a serviette on a board which made difficult to use a knife & fork, which is why I only gave 4 for food (I guess I may have been expected to pick up the burger, but it was so well filled (not complaining) I had trouble using my hands so resorted to the 'eating irons').
When in the area I would definitely eat there again.

We fly frequently from Bristol Airport. Tried several places over time but tried the New Inn and it beats anywhere else to eat on the A38 hands down. Just a shame it’s a little far to travel from Exeter or we’d eat there a lot more! Will be a regular stop every time now.
The food has been consistently first class, the staff fantastic - welcoming, friendly and professional.
Well done folks, you have it right, see you soon

Visited here on a Groupon Breakfast deal. Very nice well cooked breakfast - quality ingredients and almost "healthy" in that there was little if any cooking oil on the food or plate! Coffee or tea was included too. Service also excellent especially as we needed a fairly quick meal due to a need to visit Bristol same morning.
On a cold and damp spring morning in a village packed with tea rooms it wasn't surprising to find this place was so busy.
Well done Lion Rock!

Nice little cafe with friendly staff
It’s like walking into your grandparents house ...
Staff were helpful and friendly .. bringing a pot of tea and some cake quickly to our table ( cake wasn’t very fresh!)
If your in Cheddar you may want to give this place a try - it’s on par with the many other cafes we’d say
