Restaurant Fischerstube is located at the shore of Walensee lake in Weesen. It is a beautiful classic restaurant with tradition and style.
We went for the three course fish menu. First we received fried pike, then cod with black rice and whitefish which is the house specialty for good reasons: it was delicious!
The dessert was another highlight: strawberry mousse with cherry sherbet and merengue.

Marche Glarnerland

The original in front-cooking Here, cooking is a passion and guests can watch it live. As is customary at a traditional marketplace, you select your food from a colorful variety at various booths. The offerings include fresh, hand-squeezed juices, crisp salads, carefully prepared seasonal dishes, and homemade pastries. Marché® uses only organic/fair trade coffee for its coffee specialties. The restaurants are rooted in their respective regions, which is reflected in their individual design. They also source typical local and seasonal products from local suppliers. This high standard of freshness meets the requirements of today’s customers with regard to conscious nutrition. Hospitality is the top priority. Once the guests have initially served themselves, additional drinks and food are brought to their tables. Of course, Marché® takes care of clearing the tables for its guests.

We had a sensational lunch menu here. light breeze under a shaddow of a tree, view of the lake, well served fresh salad and local specialities really well made. Swiss made but with a taste and spark. A really nice alternartive to dull swiss menus.
To be recommended. Check menu online if you like.
Unfortunately, we were told that the lake access is not meant for the restaurant guests and only for hotel guest. i think this is fair enough.

True to my word in my last post I returned with five colleagues.
Unfortunately this restaurant is closed for refurbishment. They have a separate restaurant set up in the basement, with a very restricted menu and no Thai Curry.
Unfortunately we chose to leave and eat elsewhere.
The staff were very polite and apologetic and there were no hard feelings on departure, just dissapointment. The sort of disappointment where you have been psyching yourself up for this meal for a few weeks and your jowls are salivating all the way to the restaurant only to find it will not be when you arrive.
Hopefully next time I am in the area it will be open again and my luck will be in.

On the way back from skiing, my husband and I found this restaurant courtesy of TripAdvisor, and I am so glad we did. It's worth a trip, and we may be back.
There are two parts to the restaurant. The first part, where they sell cakes, chocolates and pralines, to take away is just basically a place to stop and buy some chocolate. For this alone, it is worth a trip. The chocolates were wonderful. On our way out, we stopped and got cake for dinner desert desert that included: (1) the local specialty cake that had chocolate and cream -- really light and lovely; and (2) a chocolate torte stuffed with chocolate mouse and raspberry -- which was rich and delectable.
There is also a proper sit down restaurant. I wasn't sure of the rules, but it's basically, if you can find a table -- grab it. The place is very popular. There is parking out front, but there was barely five minutes when a parking spot was left vacant. It's that popular (and with good reason).
Although we arrived late (after 2pm), they were able to serve us breakfast (although lunch was no longer available). My husband had the Glarnerland breakfast--which worked well for his vegetarian nature. There was gorgeous local cheese and yogurt, some tasty nutty cinnamon pastry, gorgeous whole grain brotchen (little rolls) and a croissant. He also enjoyed the coffee. For me, I found their soup of the day -- carrot -- utterly delectable. But the best part was the Verschmeltung, literally "the melting". The card on the table called it (in German) "'milk kissed chocolate" and I think that was a good description. They bring you hot milk, and then they top it with a circle of chocolate, which then has a chocolate praline on top. You wait (and watch) as the heat from the steamed milk melts the Swiss chocolate and -- wallah -- instant hot chocolate! It was gorgeous. It was divine. And the extra praline we received was wonderful.
There are only a few downsides. First, it's very popular. Getting a table or a parking spot can be tricky. If you can, it's worth making a reservation. Second, everything is in German and not a lot of English is spoken. This was tricky for my non-German speaking husband, but I was able to manage my way around. Third, there weren't that many wait staff present, so we had to wait a while for service. That having been said, our server was a LOVELY lady. Very pleasant, patient and willing to be flexible. I was very impressed by this last bit as its not normal for me to experience Swiss people willing to bend rules (i.e. serving breakfast after lunch time).
This is a perfect after ski treat. Come with an appetite for something sweet and you won't be disappointed!

Pritty hungry, wanted something to eat. Know this place from some time before, its Swiss way restorant, but I see no food quality fluctuation than seems standard. Price level -Swiss, too :-). After a rather windy crossing of the Walensee by ferry, a pleasant walk along its shores took me to the quaint village of Quinten, nested under the steep cliffs of the Churfirsten massif. The village is home to small family-owned vinyards and much to my surprise, I even found several banana plants! That says something of the micro-climate of the place - I mean, we're in the Alps here!
The restaurant has a lovely patio where we had our aperitifs under the branches of old plantaines. The wind, however, drove us indoors for the main courses. The menu is varied and has several very fine fish dishes. The service was friendly and unintrusive which is precisely how I like it.
If you're in the vicinity, I can very much recommend a walk along the lush northern shores of lake Walensee, rounding the day off with a delicious meal or a drink at the Wirtschaft zur Schifflaende! And please note: I'm sure it's not always windy.. ;)

after having a very pleasing dinner last summer in the garden of Schwyzerhof I came back in winter-time.... bad decision!
While outside one enjoys the beautiful lake and view with the genuine Thai food, you have to take care in the inside not to bang your head on the low ceiling, it is cramped, filthy and not inviting at all!
But I will be back next summer :)
