Maker's Mark

Watch a sour mash ferment in giant cypresswood vats on its way to becoming that heavenly Kentucky bourbon at this distillery.

This is a beautiful campus WAY out in nowhere Kentucky. You really get the historic, non-corporate vibe at this distillery (even though their production is quite corporate).

We’re from Wisconsin, so alcohol isn’t a taboo thing like other states. I brought my 10 year old girls along and they appreciated the process and science behind Maker’s Mark. I figure there are chemical engineers, microbiologists, artists, marketers, accountants, etc on staff. It’s good to show them all the different jobs out there.

I highly recommend the tour.

This is the place to start your Lincoln trail. The marriage certificate of Thomas Lincoln and Nancy Hanks is filed in the Washington County Court House in Springfield. Many people feel that Abraham Lincoln was actually born in Washington County. This is where it started!

Very glad we stopped here on our vacation. The tour/tastings were free. Our tour guide (Tom) was very entertaining, informative, and kind. He gave lots of history about the distillery and family, you would not receive at any other distillery in the area. Definitely worth the stop, and one of the better distilleries in the area in my opinion.

Gary, his wife Robbie and granddaughter Aubrey are fantastic tour guides - fun, funny, knowledgeable and nice. I was in Kentucky with a small group for a friend's 40th birthday. They took us to several distilleries - a really interesting and unexpected combination of places. It was a great day all around!

Serano Alpacas & Yarns

We are a working alpaca farm with a fiber mill, and farm store. Come feed the alpacas and learn why their fiber has been revered for thousands of years. In our fiber mill you will see how we turn nearly 200# of fiber each year into finished products. Our farm store not only offers alpaca products and yarns, we have locally handcrafted gifts, and even a few collectibles. Tours by appt. year round.

Not sure that it gets much better than this. We learned so much about Alpacas and their fiber. Judi and Ron shared their experiences and fiber in a way that made us sorry to leave. We even got to feed them!

They have a great display of uncarded fur and fiber that shows the differences between species. They have a gift shop where one can buy local crafts and their yarn. Lots of finished pieces to choose from as well.

My daughter found it thrilling to buy the yarn of an alpaca that we might have seen. Love patronizing small farmers who obviously take pride in what they do.

Great experience. Thank you Ron and Judi!
