This waterfall is beautifully surrounded by dense jungle trees and plants.
How to get there: take a bus from San Gil. It's bus 4 to Charala, it costs 7000 per person and takes about 45 minutes to get there. They drop you off at the entrance
The park: you have a restaurant, toilets, etc. The entrance fee is 7000.
The hike: is 1 km, easy walk, sometimes it goes somewhat uphill, but in 15 - 20 minutes you get to the waterfall. Path is good and well displayed.

This park is amazingly beautiful. While walking the paths you will see huge trees, flowers, and various local shrubs all embedded in a stunningly beautiful landscape of little rivers, boulders, and fern. Walking all trails took me around 2 hours, but you will likely find yourself sitting on a bench, admiring the beauty of nature for a while. Regular entrance fee is 10,000 COP but my hostel is part of some network, so I got a discount and only paid 6,000 COP.

Parroquia Catedral de Santa Cruz

Perhaps not the best "vacation" atmosphere since this feels just like your regular business-crowded city Church without a relaxing atmosphere or good sights unlike similar town churches; this Cathedral is still very imposing in it's own way and because of its location can't be missed as it will only take a couple of minutes of your time to get there.

My hostel overlooked this park, there are a ton of birds and great social interaction here. There are huge ceiba trees, the statue (arch with 3 Guane Indians), flowers, vendors, lovers, all very nicely done and well kept. Surprisingly, things die down pretty quick in the evening, after 9:30 or 10:00, the park is mostly deserted.

Pozo Azul

Reviewed By CFEIII - Austin, Texas

About 2 km from San Gil along the Bucaramanga highway is the Pozo Azul. It is a nice sized creek or quebrada that has been dammed up to make a swimming hole. Entrance is free to the public. The water is very refreshing, there are a series of Waterfalls and pools, and can get crowded on weekends. Thru the week, you will likely have it to yourself. At the site, there are a series of small bars and restaurants probably all open on weekends, but thru the week, I was happy to get a couple beers! This is a good spot to come birding and to to get out of the hustle and bustle of San Gil. I walked there from the center of town, although there are buses and any of the taxis could bring you here.
