Great experience. The training was excellent before we were let loose. Richard the guide made it fun and paced the session well for all levels and stopped when instruction was required or to let the slower ones catch up. It went too fast and would have loved another 30 minutes!!

Wickers World Balloon Flights

We are the largest operator of hot air balloon rides in Staffordshire, Cheshire, Derbyshire, Shropshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire.Established for more than 20 years, this thriving family business carries almost 6000 passengers each year in its fleet of hot air balloons.

I have seen hot air balloons floating over Derbyshire on many occasions and always fancied having a go myself. Eventually made the decision and booked with Wickers World
The first four flights I booked were cancelled due to the weather being too windy which was disappointing. But this is clearly better than flying in unsafe conditions and it is reassuring that Wickers World put safety before profit.
Successful flight at the fifth attempt, taking off last Friday morning from Trentham Gardens in Staffordshire shortly after sunrise on a cold, calm, frosty morning.
Fantastic flight, clear blue skies, Jon the pilot gave an excellent commentary about what we could see and the logistics of flying the balloon. Sometimes flying high and sometimes low to catch different air currents that took us in slightly different directions. Very smooth landing.
The whole flight was videoed from a camera suspended from the balloon and downloaded onto a memory stick so that you can play-back the flight on your computer whenever you like.
This was going to be a once in a lifetime flight for me. But having enjoyed it so much I've decided I will treat myself to a second flight from a different location sometime next year.
If you are thinking of booking a balloon flight then go for it. If you are unlucky with the weather you might experience a few cancellations before you get your flight. But when you do get to fly you won't regret it!
I've no idea what other balloon companies are like. But I highly recommend 'Wickers World'

Driving past the Commonwealth Graves Commission site you come to the German Military Cemetery. Open from 10 o'clock it is a peaceful and thought provoking part of Cannock Chase. We strolled around the beautifully kept grounds and rested for a while on one of its many benches. The most poignant place for me were the four caskets containing the remains of the crew of zeppelins shot down during World War I.

Museum of Cannock Chase

A fantastic learning and playing experience for all the family. We've recently invested significantly in a brand new mining gallery showcasing the area's rich history and heritage. We also operate a full calendar of events. Come down and see us and pop to the Pavilion afterwards for a delicious afternoon tea!

We went really to see a textiles exhibition, but we looked around the museum about mining, which for me was very informative, as I knew very little about it. Was very impressed, and will recommend it to other people too if they are looking somewhere different to visit. The exhibition was excellent too.

This was an excellent experience, You get to learn the history of Gin and you are given books to look at all botanicals used in different Gins. You then choose botanicals for your own blend with very knowledgeable and helpful guidance. You then make your own bottle in your little still. At the end before final dilution taste everyone's effort great but as this is this is about 57%ABV have a designated driver. I love my own blend still 3, 8/12/17
Will be ordering more. Lunch is provided as is a tour of the still and bottling. Highly Recommended. Nelson's own no.7 Gin is also highly recommended.

As a family we have spent a lot of time around Chasewater, whether it’s for a Sunday stroll or out on the water sailing. It is a beautiful location with an easy 3 mile walk around the lake. If you’re lucky enough you should see the deer somewhere usually up near the Heaths.
Nice little park and cafe on the opposite side to burntwood and a great little micro brewery around the back of the innovation centre.

Blithbury Reindeer Lodge

Blithbury Reindeer Lodge, nestled in the heart of Staffordshire, is home to England's largest working Reindeer herd. Over 150 Reindeer roam freely across our beautiful 30-acre site, which opens to the public for special events throughout the year. We are the only place in the country where visitors can see, fuss and even feed so many Reindeer of varying ages and types; from babies and young calves, to sleigh-pullers and our incredibly tame show Reindeer, many of whom are stars of the small and big screen. Christmas at Blithbury Reindeer Lodge is a unique and magical experience. With hot chocolate, mince pies, an authentic sleigh ride pulled by our specially trained Reindeer and, of course, a visit to Santa, where else would you want to visit at Christmas time? We're not just for Christmas though as we open our gates for special events throughout the year. From meet the babies events to Reindeer handling and family fun days, we offer something completely different to traditional farms and zoos.

Reviewed By elainetarven - Chesterfield, United Kingdom

We visited Blithebury Reindeer Lodge on Wednesday with our 10 year old son, who still has belief in Santa. We always try and do something 'different' with him each Christmas to extend the 'magic'. This gets increasingly difficult having already taken him to Lapland!
However, our son although at the upper age limit of visiting Blithebury, he absolutely adored the reindeer here, we got so much joy from seeing him feed the reindeer and got through 7 cups of moss. The reindeer are different ages and sizes but so beautiful and gentle and just such a wonder to see.
Santa for us was therefore just a secondary attraction to the reindeer. He looked fairly authentic but didn't pronounce Derby correctly ( saying Derby rather than Darby). This was pretty fundamental since our little boy is a huge Rams fan and so had put a Derby County kit on his Christmas wish list!! It was also staggering as Blithebury itself is pretty near Derby too! We were able to take our own photos with Santa and we weren't rushed.
The Elf school was really a waiting room exercise for the children to be staggered to see Santa and the girl doing the story time outside was too quietly spoken to catch anything she said. We didn't pay the extra £7.50 to go on the sleigh ride, because the sleighs were only on wheels and did a very short lap over a concreted area behind the barns.
I have given Blithebury 4 stars for the reindeer experience itself. Yes the visit involved a 110 mike round trip and wasn't cheap, but the thrill it gave our little boy to feed these lovely animals, made it all worth it. Younger children would also be more enthralled by the sleigh rides on offer here.
We also wish Blithebury well with their campaign against HS2 .
