Newport Lakes Reserve

We took our dog for a walk here recently. A great reserve with covered BBQ areas, Seating and toilets. It's a shame a whole section of the park doesn't let you walk your dog there.......it's the more beautiful part of the park. Would definitely return.

Steamrail Victoria

Reviewed By Victorianlad - Melbourne, Australia

Steamrail Victoria does not operate rail tours every week, but when it does, they are often worth travelling on.
I prebooked by mail although telephone bookings are available, but note the limited office hours of 0900 to 1430.
On the May 2008 trip to Ballarat, just over 110 rail kilometres from Melbourne, travellers who joined at Melbourne's Southern Cross railway station had the opportunity to hear the 1950s 'Hudson' type R class steam engine working hard as it tackled the severe grades between Bacchus Marsh and Bank Box Loop, as the top of the hill is known in railway circles.
The engine is impeccably maintained and despite being limited to 80 kilometres an hour top speed on the commuter lines ex Melbourne, it managed to put on a good show which most travellers appeared to enjoy.
It ws a bit cool on the return trip but those who dress sensibly will not have many problems, and bringing a thermos of coffee or hot chocolate helps to keep the inner man or woman warm.
Be aware that some of the longer trips may run late on their return to Melbourne, although this does not usually apply to shorter trips such as Ballarat and Geelong.
Better value than a ubiquitous coach tour, with the opportunity to share in railway history as well.

707 Operations

Reviewed By Victorianlad - Melbourne, Australia

This voluntary group has preserved a mainline 'Hudson' R class steam locomotive used on what was the Victorian Railways.
I travelled on a day tour to South Geelong. The train was punctual and for no extra charge had first class seats available, plus a buffet car and a bar car, the latter selling alcohol. The atmosphere on board the train was terrific with the airconditioning ensuring that everyone was comfortable.
Locomotive R707 performed faultlessly despite being limited to a maximum speed of 80 kilometres an hour. Due to heavy traffic on the freeway, we passed lots of cars at speed. The fare of $85 per person including a visit to a preserved branch line railway was very good value.

Went here with my daughter and had the best breakfast and coffee. The staff were fantastic and went out of their way to make sure we had a great experience. We have been back several times since and have been delighted every time. Great place.

We often go to the Junction as it's walking distance from home. It's a fantastic local with surprisingly delcious pizzas! Thin crust and real Italian flavours! They also do a great steak - cooked to perfection!
Great buzzy atmosphere, great food and great value. If you're after a good and affordable meal, come on down to Newport!

Lovely relaxing massage with the occasional working on knotted muscles. Better than a remedial massage in my opinion as it combines the relaxation and therapeutic parts. Well worth a visit. New shop in Victoria St Seddon also great.

DERMPAV Tours

Our excursion to Warrnambool took us through Geelong and the farms of the Western District to arrive for our overnight stay in the historic sea side city of Warrnambool. The company had organsed great overnight accommodation for us and even booked those of us who wanted into a well priced restaurant. As always we were able to make stops along the way to inspect out of the way railway stations and even go to places where passenger Railways no longer went.

Newport Rsl Sub Branch

Place where all the ex servicemen can get in and have a chat. Facilities are in need or renovations and only had a small number of staff present. The atmosphere is quite jovial amongst those there. Drinks were really cheap and they have bands on some nights (not the day I was there) It obviously has a good cliental attending but would need to upgrade the facilities should they want to attract more people. Still worth a visit and I would go back no worries
