Europa-Park

Europa-Park is closed until November 24. In the heart of Europe, between the Black Forest and the Vosges, lies one of the world's most beautiful theme parks. More than 5 million people from all over the world visit the park each season to enjoy the excitement offered by more than one hundred attractions and shows. The innovative European theme concept; one of the largest hotel resorts in Europe; the various decorations for each season; and the large number of diverse and colorful events make Europa-Park a one-of-a-kind getaway destination all year long.

We came at the start of the Easter school vacations. Mid-week, bad weather forecast (that only partly materialised). The place was maybe 20% full. There was zero queueing. Zero. Seeing how far we had to walk through queueing pens, I can only imagine what July is like. We focussed on the 'big rides' and did 17 in 6 hours. I couldn't take much more.
The whole place is beautifully themed, and immaculately clean. I did not love Disneyland, but I loved Europa Park.

Mercedes-Benz Museum

The museum is an amazing building.
The cars displayed are not all mint, as new cars, as they are no doubt loaned out for motoring display events and I think that what I like about the museum.
These are real cars in fantastic condition well displayed for everyone to get close to and learn how Mercedes progressed the development of cars over the past 100 years.
A must for anyone with an interest in cars and for those who are ambivalent, suck it up and enjoy it with your friends.
I really enjoyed seeing real cars and some had prices on them so we could appreciate where they fit into our car buying budgets, mostly outside my budget, but nice to be close to the cars of my dream. A great day.

On the Tauck Tours Christmas Markets Along the Rhine River we went ashore to visit the Markets in Baden-Baden. This park is especially lovely at dusk with the Christmas lights of nearby residences.

Schwetzingen Castle (Schloss)

Reviewed By Globetrotter045 - Haacht, Belgium

It is a delight to explore the landscaped Gardens and discover all the temples, fake ruins, statues, Fountains and even a mosque. I saw a lot of birds too: ducks, geese, swans, herons and even a tree full of parakeets. Probably escaped parakeets, who found a new home in the park. It is a huge park and it will take 2-3 hours to see everything. And to rest your feet afterwards, there is a café in the Gardens and another one across the ticket office.
Practical info:
The visit of the Schloss can easily be done as a day trip from Heidelberg, it is only half an hour by bus 717. Several tickets available for visiting the gardens/castle. I opted for a guided tour of the castle and visit of the Gardens = 10 €. Daily tours are in German, in the weekend also tours in English. While the guided tour was interesting for the history, I found the interior of the castle not that impressive. The baroque Gardens are the absolute star here.

Christmas and Medieval Market

Reviewed By acandkc - Richland, Washington

What a market, what a day! Everyone should experience such a Christmas at least once in their lives..it's just what you think it should be! Lots of lights, lots of Christmas decorations, lots of happy people, and best of all, lots of gluwein! When you buy one of the many different types of gluwein you pay extra for the cup...if you want to return it, you'll get your deposit back, but it sure makes a great souvenir of a wonderful day!

Kunsthalle Wurth Museum

Reviewed By Elizabeth-Lucy - Eau Claire, Wisconsin

Located "across" town is the Wurth Museum. This museum charges no admission and does offer quite an art collection offered by the Wurth Family. Albeit only a portion of their collection is displayed here it does take some time to go through and enjoy the various themes offered. I would plan on two hours, longer if you want to peruse the museum shop or enjoy a snack in the cafe. The exhibit we viewed was Water, Clouds and Wind which I believe runs through September 2017. Please know that this is only a portion of over 17,000 pieces in the Wurth Collection in various museums located throughout Europe. The museum itself boasts some interesting architecture, but please note all artwork in sculpture in this museum was in Deutsch with no English translation; although we were fine walking through despite that fact.
