Vancouver Food Guide: 10 Must-Eat Restaurants & Street Food Stalls in Vancouver

February 27, 2018 Marlin Saiz

Vancouver was founded as “Gastown” by an Englishman with a penchant for beer and storytelling. Today Gastown is a historic section of the Canadian metropolis, and the lively pubs still reflect the area’s former status as a sort of community drinking center. The city’s forests, grand parks, and impressive suspension bridge beckon travelers to explore them, as do the city’s shops and museums. Relive the glory of the 2010 Winter Games with visits to Olympic venues and the marvelous Olympic Cauldron.

One of the top Canadian restaurants. Menu is a pix fix 3 course with many choice in the starters, mains and Deserts. Great service and great food well presented. Canadian/Continental Cuisine. Five Sails Restaurant

Dramatically situated on the waterfront pier at Canada Place, this AAA Four Diamond award winning fine dining restaurant offers a breathtaking natural backdrop of the inner harbor, Stanley Park and Coastal Mountains with gracious hospitality in an understated elegant setting. Proprietors Chef Ernst Dorfler and Gerry Sayers, a husband and wife team, bring years of experience to Five Sails skillfully fusing modern, continental cuisine with European influences to cultivate a memorable dining experience. Showcasing the mastery that made Chef Dorfler an internationally acclaimed Culinary Olympic World Champion, his signature mountain raviolis stuffed with fine herbs, spinach and ricotta then finished with a drizzle of hazelnut butter harken back to his Austrian childhood. The innovative "Catch!", a veritable cornucopia of seafood is enrobed in a lemongrass sauce perfumed with coconut milk and hint of chili, displays world-class passion and artistry. Sommelier, Ramon Fresneda, always brings impressive knowledge and unpretentious flair in providing optimal wine pairings from a list consistently honoured with the Wine Spectator's Award of Excellence. The gracious service and exemplary dining combined with sweeping views of ships sailing off into the setting sun is an experience like none other.

The restaurant is located in the Canada Place / Pan Pacific Hotel complex and has wonderful views of the Bay. The food was equally very good. I had the veal sweetbreads, which were good but I believe were cut into too small of pieces so that you could not feel their succulence. The Dover sole was very good but my only comment was that its accompaniments detracted slightly from the fish's simple taste. Other than these quibbles, the food was very good. Prices are steep.

One can never go wrong at this restaurant. The main thrust of this menu is seafood but they do fantastic steak if fish and sushi is not your thing. This place ALWAYS has a great energy and arguably sitting at the bar is one of the best seats in the city of Vancouver. Great spot to meet people or have a great discussion with travelers. If not the bartenders are all highly entertaining. They ARE opening a steak restaurant just across the street this coming summer (2018)...Im sure that will be a winner also.

Came in around lunch time. Medina was super busy but we were given the option of sitting at the bar. While they do have traditional eggs breakfast, they also offer a variety of other menu items as well. Since it was the first time that we had visited this restaurant, our server was very helpful in guiding us in the right direction with our food choices, and I ended up with a very tasty choice. Would definitely return. Just keep in mind that there might be a longer wait time during peak times.

Miku

We specialize in Aburi, or flamed-seared sushi, which was developed nearly a century ago in Japan. The act of applying fire directly to sushi enhances the natural flavours and textures of the fish, creating a new and exciting culinary experience. Miku owner Seigo Nakamura innovated the Aburi concept by crafting specialty sauces using non-traditional Japanese ingredients to pair with each type of fish. The light sear from the binchotan (Japanese bamboo charcoal) caramelizes the sauce, releasing a smoky aroma and bringing out the finest flavours in each piece of Aburi sushi. Miku Restaurant is within walking distance from the Pan Pacific Hotel, Canada Place, Fly Over Canada, Cruise Ship Terminals and Sea Bus.

This place was really modern style sushi and not bad at all. The sushis were fresh and beautifully presented. Great location and the Asian staffs were attentive and super friendly. Had some nice sake as well. A bit pricey but overall worth it! Better to make Reservations since it seemed busy all the time.

Salmon n' Bannock Bistro

We are Vancouver's only First Nations restaurant. We specialize in wild fish, free range game meat and of course bannock, freshly baked daily. We use traditional ingredients that we prepare and present in a modern way. In our small casual bistro everyone is welcome as they are. In the spirit of First Nations' traditions, our intention is to provide a gathering place where the focus is on the people and the food. Inez (Nuxalk Nation) and Remi Owners

We had a wonderful experience - in part - because they modified a dish due to one of our dinner members having an onion allergy. What was surprising is that they didn't just eliminated onions from the dish, they completely changed the sauce to something that was just as delicious. So when the meals came out, one of our party member had the sable fish dish with the regular sauce and the other member had a completely different, but just as delicious, sauce.
More surprising is that they emailed us the day before to ask what dish our onion allergic friend was planning on ordering so that they could have time to modify the dish. I thought that attention to detail in trying to make the meal delicious in spite of not using onions was admirable.
