Al-Fanar restaurant & Auberge

Reviewed By Renee S - Beirut, Lebanon

On a whim, we took a road trip to Sur. By the time we arrived from Beirut we were very hungry. Managing to resist a quick shawarma at a small shops on the street, we finally decided on Al-Fanar. The staff was friendly and accommodating from the beginning. It was fairly busy and they had a constant flow of work, but yet they managed to stop by and inquire on various needs while we were there. We ordered fish and some Mezza. The food was very tasty and I strongly recommend the fish (I am sorry to say that I forgot the name of fish we ordered, but I have posted a photo which will help.) I wasn't so excited about the fattouche salad, but the baba ghanouj, and everything else was lovely.
To sit in a relaxed place along the sea, no music just natural atmosphere, good prices and great food and service, I am very happy we chose Al-Fanar.

Le Phenicien

Reviewed By JohnNKY - Ludlow, Kentucky

Le Phenicien is one of our favorite restaurants in Lebanon, and a must-do if you're in Tyre. It's small and understated, but it's right on the water, and serves amazing fried fish. You can practically watch the fishermen bring in your meal.
This is the quintessential Lebanese seafood restaurant, sit back, relax, and enjoy the experience. It starts with mezze, an assortment of appetizers, there is plenty to choose from, but try the octupus, it's superb. Next is fish, it's what you came for. Fish Lebanese style is fried and whole, and it's delicious. Note that the prices are high (everywhere), but that they are by the kilo, and you can order a half kilo, a quarter, or even less. I recommend getting an assortment of fish, they'll all be served together in a huge dish to share.
You have to try the Sultan Ibrahim, this delicate, rich, mild tasting fish is incredibly good, and is famous nationwide. Get a mix of Sultan Ibrahim and one or two others, (we had farida) you won't regret it. After the main course, we were served a marvelous pistachio/ashta (clotted cream) dessert and watermelon. It should be noted that the watermelons near Tyre are the best in the country, and literally burst with flavor and sweetness.
After this, coffee on the waterfront is in order. Have a shisha with it as well if you like, and soak in the atmosphere. I can't wait to eat here again!

Aurelia

Reviewed By UNNIMAYA - Abu Dhabi UAE

A family run establishment with the man taking care of the kitchen and the lady taking care of the restaurant - Aurelia is sure to stay in your mind as a pleasant experience. The service is personal and you don't mind it being slow since you get time to savor the cosy atmosphere that this restaurant offers. Situated right at the port entrance , they seem to be very popular with locals or they must be getting a lot of repeat customers since everybody seems to know every body else- so we found the people watching enhancing our experience.
The local Lebanese house wines offered were good. We had Shrimp Bang - crispy and extremely tasty- and White fish fillet - which was not bad. Although a bit steeply priced, we did not regret the money spend since we had a good time and some tasty food

Baroud Restaurant

Reviewed By ZKZ15 - Beirut, Lebanon

Foul Al Baroudl is the first cooked beans and chickpeas shop and the most famous in Tyre.
In his youth, Abou Abed went to Haifa and worked in a shop that serves cooked beans and chickpeas to return with the secret recipe in 1948 and open his own shop in the old Ottoman souq of Tyre.
Today his children and grandchildren are still the secret holders of the recipe. The secret of the recipe is the way of cooking the beans by a bucket surrounded with sand and no chemicals!
The menu is: Foul (Beans) Hummus (Chickpeas) & Msabha (Also another version of Chickpeas).
Of course the platters come with the service of fresh veggies and bread.

Not only you will enjoy the food but also the location.
Come in group and sit with a table full of delicious platters in the middle of the old souq, between shops and passersby.
What to Order: Order the three different types of plates and have a sharing meal - ask for tea. If you like it spicy ask for their spice dip

The price of any plate is 5,000 L.L (approx. 3 dollars.)
How to reach there: Go to the old Souq of Tyre (next to the old Port) and ask anyone about Al Baroud and they will show you the direction.
Bonus: The past Lebanese President Kameel Shamoun was one of his loyal customers.
