Coopers Meat Market & Restaurant

Reviewed By Yogi J - Hamilton, Canada

It was mid afternoon on a cool afternoon when we arrived at Coopers; too late for lunch, but too early for dinner. We scanned the menu of fairly traditional road side restaurant fare until our eyes caught the entry for the "Truckers Special" available in small and large sizes. What followed from the kitchen were enormous servings of soul food consisting of ground beef, french fries, gravy and grated cheese. A very memorable and long lasting meal to say the least.

We loved all our meals here. Breakfasts included yogurt, fruit, muffins and incredible tea biscuits that reminded me of my mother's. Service was so warm and friendly. The cod at dinner was amazing. A meat choice was also provided, and again the service was wonderful. The chef actually phoned me on my cell to check on my pepper allergy and made a special topping just for me without the pepper. Now that is service! The restaurant and deck were also great places to meet and talk to imteresting fellow travellers. The Twine Loft was a lovely comfortable place to hang out, which we did on a rainy morning. There were books, art, fun people dropping in--all great.

Totally average experience. Not many options, so it's a fine one for a night in Trinity. Stick to the classics (I got crab legs) instead of anything special or too far flung.

Two Whales Coffee Shop

We are now closed for the season - reopening May 2018.

Two Whales is a small, family run, independent coffee shop and restaurant overlooking Robin Hood Bay in the small township of Port Rexton on the Bonavista Peninsula. This is our 9th season in business and our reputation grows every year. According to many of our customers we serve the best espresso coffees on the island - we feel it is a combination of great beans (from Jumping Bean in St John's), our espresso machine, skill, our well water and a bit of Two Whales magic! We serve a range of premium teas and soft drinks including our special homemade organic lemonade. Part of our philosophy is that we do not serve anything that we will not eat or drink ourselves. We serve delicious, healthy vegetarian food and yummy cakes which you can find out about in our menu. We use as much organic and/or locally sourced ingredients as we can, make and bake just about everything ourselves in our own kitchen and take great care in what we do.

We were looking forward to lunch here and to starting our biennale tour from the end to the beginning. Unfortunately, this restaurant is NOT wheelchair accessible, in spite of claims made on its website and copied elsewhere. So we didn't eat there and didn't start...MoreI am sorry for your experience. Although we are not officially wheelchair accessible as we are an old building as far I know we have always been able to bring customers with limited mobility and in reasonably-sized wheelchairs through our staff door.

We stayed in the Inn and ate a few meals in the restaurant. They offer two seatings at dinner but this place is so popular it books up fast, so it is important to reserve. Both our dinners were excellent. It's a prix fixe for 4 courses, but it never disappointed. Wine selection was limited but what I did try were delicious. Service is friendly and professional.

Skipper Bob's

Small, friendly restaurant. Apparently we arrived just before closing. But we didn't feel like we were being pushed or rushed out of the restaurant. From what I saw, I think this is part of a hostel or something with a communal kitchen. It had that look to it. That being said, the restaurant section was nicely setup, the meals were a good size and filling. I had a moose dinner, which tasted quite a bit like beef. I haven't had moose before. The price was right for a nice family type meal.
