We were under the impression these caves were historical .. instead of the storage caves they are used for wines and agriculture. On a hot day ... definitely a little respite from the heat.

Bodega Vera de Estenas

I came with my friends and husband to visit this beautiful winery in Spain! We spent 2 weeks in this area learning about wine and gaining knowledge about this great craft. Everyone we met was incredibly welcoming. Eduardo gave us a tour of the facility and also shared about his passion that has been passed down through generations. This is a family run winery, and it shows in the museum, in the art work on the walls, and as you walk through the buildings. We were extremely blessed to have the opportunity to try a delicious Vina Lidon chardonnay that is completely unique to only their winery. Being an individual that doesn't always love chardonnays I was shocked that I absolutely loved this one. This wine is phenomenal, full flavor, and has a delicious aroma. We are excited to purchase more of it in the future.
If you are in the area this is a must stop. You will walk away changed and will have learned so much by the end of the visit. This place is a gem.

Although the tour was short, it was very informative. The vineyard was beautiful and the wine tasting was great. The wine I purchased was also priced very reasonably, considering how good the quality was. I would definitely recommend coming here if you are in the area!

We joined a group of Spanish and Germans on a wonderfully informed tour of this Bodega. The tour was conducted in Spanish with some input in English from our fellows and the owner. The winery has invested heavily in new world wine making equipment and methods and its paid off. The wines are marketed on the basis of the number of grape types used - so los doces, les cuatros, ochos etc. Do try and book into a tour. We found ourselves seeking out these wines for the rest of our 2 week stay on restaurant wine lists as they were so well made and great with food.

Casa del Arte Mayor de la Seda

Reviewed By crazy_jen - L'Ametlla de Mar, Spain

We came across this small museum among the streets of the old town of Requena. The house was built by one of the silk merchants in the 18th century and the silk weavers guild met in this house. During this period Requena had more than 800 looms and silk was brought from Valencia and the woven silk exported to America via the ports of Seille and Cadiz.
The house is laid out typical of the period. It has lots of everyday bits and pieces of the time. The top floor has a loom and various artifacts associated with silk weaving.
A video is available (in English as well as Spanish) which explains how the silk is dyed and woven and the different patterns which were used.

We went to Valencia and travelled to Requena on a bus tour. The first stop was a vineyard which provided a guided tour of the facility and a tasting of the vineyard's wine. I learned very little about making wine, but I have been on many wine tours. It was fine, but I have had better wines many times. After the tour, we went to the city to do a little cave exploring which was interesting, but I'm not sure that it was worth the time. The city walk around was particularly boring and overall, we would have been better off staying in Valencia and having Paella and Bodegas Valderroa.

Naturally, as a former watchtower in times of conflict, the old tower offers terrific views of the landscape of provincial Spain. Well restored and maintained, it is the gateway to the quaint, picturesque old town of "La Villa". Requena is an excellent town to visit to gain an insight into former rulers and conflicts of the Community of Valencia, an historian's dream.
