Le Circuit des Fontaines

Reviewed By vanessa c - Leamington Spa, United Kingdom

A sunny walk around this beautiful town made more interesting by following the Fountain circuit - who could grumble? Pernes is very lovely but rather odd in that the centre is incredibly quiet while all the action takes place around the perimeter road - nothing wrong with that, just got a feeling of it being inside-out. Our walk led us to two delightful finds - an art exhibition at the Chapelle des Penitents Blancs (I think) and the shop of a young marqueterie craftsman, Corentin Tavernier. All in all, the circuit is well worth doing - enjoy!

La Synagogue

A big disappointment. Went to Carpentras specially from Avignon, just to see the Synagogue. It's listed as open Monday to Friday and unlike other sites there, it does not show closed on Fete days. However the Tourist Office insisted it was closed because of Ascension day. Didn't think Jews kept this Christian festival! Anyway it was a wasted visit.

We rented a real variety of bikes (kids, teens, road, city). Equipment was delivered on time, in great condition, and well fitted to sizes. Hubert who took care of us was extremely helpful and accommodating. Thank you, Hubert.
P.S. On a bike is the way to enjoy Provence! But make sure you book equipment in advance.

La Collegiale Notre Dame des Anges

Reviewed By Jane C - Languedoc-Roussillon, France

This church is quite ordinary from the outside but we went in and gasped in amazement. It is wonderfully decorated in blues and golds. Please go and visit! Words cannot describe its splendour. It was started in the 12 century and the marvellous decorations are from the time of Louis 14th - the Sun King. It was made possible from profits from the waterwheel driven town mills. (Now no longer there except for the waterwheels) The church is being renovated at the moment.

Grottes de Thouzon

Caves are caves everywhere, but some features here made it quite different from other I have seen around the world. The 1st is the existence of estalactites as thin and long as noodles . Locally they designate them as "macarroni" in reference to the Italian pasta.
The 2nd interesting thing is the difference in colours between rocks creating very impressive paintures when under artificial ilumination.
A 3rd is how different rocks cohexist and support each other against our common sense. I will not tell you anyhting further . Go there and enjoy

Since we first discovered the beautiful hilltop village of Venasque some 30 years ago it has been one of our favourite places in the world and we never tire of wandering it's quiet, narrow streets and admiring the lovely houses and monuments. The main church and the Babtistere are well worth visiting and you should also take time to sit by the cafe by the Fountain to enjoy a refreshing drink.
And for something more substantial, the village is blessed with a couple of splendid restaurants.

L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue Market

I am a stall holder on the antiques market and it is a super colourful place to work and visit. The market is on every sunday from around 8 am, there is a general markey selling local produce and many other things to tempt you. Along the Ave 4 hostages there is the antique market that is open all day, there is a variety of antiques and unique different things to look at and purchase as a souveneer from provence. Each year there are 2 INTERNATIONAL ANTIQUE FAIRS one at Easter and the other is over the 15th August each year when the whole town explodes with antiques, art and wierd and wonderful things to buy and look at. Check it out and come along you will not be dissapointed.

This market takes over town. You can buy all types of food, clothing, tablecloths and all the wares of the area. It is fun to walk around and talk to merchants. The Thursday market is smaller and less crowded. The Sunday market is crazy between 9 and 12 because all the tours arrive!!!!

Marche Agricole de Velleron

Reviewed By sydneysider48 - Sydney, Australia

We stayed in Velleron for two weeks and visited the daily (except Sunday) farmers' markets a number of times. Most days there are 30 - 50 stalls full of freshly picked fruits and vegetables, with friendly farmers selling their produce at very reasonable prices.
Many locals obviously visit regularly to stock up on supplies and the atmosphere is happy and friendly during the hour from 6 to 7 when the market is open. (Hours differ from October to ? May)

The children go to school in the village, and like us, they have French friends.
