Top 10 Things to do in Lloydminster, Canada

February 13, 2018 Rebbecca Marino

Lloydminster is a Canadian city which has the unusual geographic distinction of straddling the provincial border between Alberta and Saskatchewan. Unlike most such cases (such as Texarkana and Kansas City), Lloydminster is not a pair of twin cities on opposite sides of a border which merely share the same name, but is incorporated by both provinces as a single city with a single municipal administration.

The trails aren't busy most days and it feels like a little bit of the Wilderness right in the city. My only beef: too many people do not pick up their dog's waste. Have stepped in or almost stepped in it multiple times.

The Hubs and I are in Lloydminster for our first time on one of our random weekend road trips. We stopped in here, and it's not bad. Some interesting and well done pieces art work. We thoroughly enjoyed the hands-on heavy oil learning section. We found the taxidermied animal section just wrong (for us) and not realistic in many views. But overall, we had a good time, and learnt a lot more about oil.

Border Markers

More of an anomaly for this city which straddles the provincial border. Those driving on the Yellowhead Trail will get their own indication of crossing the provincial borders with these markers (other than a small sign on one of the traffic lights.) Not really memorable, nor worth going out of the way for, but they are also on the beaten path.

Border City Petting Zoo

Reviewed By Kieko55 - Nanaimo, Canada

I visited this park with My daughter and her family. For the most part the experience was good. There were many areas were people could interact with the animals that were well maintained and not a threat in any way to the animals. There were however a few areas that caused me great concern for the animals.
There were two little wolf pups alone in a pen. They were letting people into the pen about 8-10 at a time. In efforts to take pictures with the pups the pups were being handled by so many people. My biggest concern was the small children that were to small to hold the pups yet were allowed to pick them up and handel them.
Another concern was the size of the holding pen for the alligator. There was no room for it to move around much at all. It was quite heartbreaking to see.
