Top 10 Things to do in Kashmir, India

February 27, 2018 Hector Krause

The valley of Kashmir is as rich with history and political controversy as it is with culture and natural phenomena. Sample exquisitely spiced native cuisines and festive teas, then walk off your meal along the rugged trekking routes to the north. Marvel at the famous houseboats of Srinagar and take a spiritual moment to reflect at one of the many pilgrimage sites and religious shrines that dot the region. Of course, native craftsmanship makes for excellent souvenirs—carpets and textiles are an especial shopping must.

I visited Sonamarg today.Considering it is September our driver suggested us to visit the zero point .we hired a local cab from Sonamarg, they charged a bomb .However the drive was once in a lifetime experience. It was truely a rollercoaster ride. View is breathtaking. It is defenitely not for the faint hearted.Luckily there was less vehicles so we didn't face any blocks. Just loved the experience.

Absolutely loved visiting the three temples, the paintings inside are mindblowing and some are some of the sculptures including the hidden 50 foot Buddha statue that many people miss going through a narrow door on the side of one of the smaller temples. The monastery is crumbling and severely needs repairs but having spent ten weeks around Ladakh, this is one monastery I definitely recommend visiting. Dress appropriately!

If you are in Kashmir then Gulmarg is a must see place, it is the highest point there covered with snow and beautifully serine, you can enjoy skiing or other winter sports if you know how to, other than that drink hot chai(tea with milk) in one of the cafes and enjoy the beautiful scenery, you can also take the Gondola to first or second level of the mountain, important advise : as soon as you arrive to the place don't listen to any one offering tours or taking you to the cable car station(Gondola) it is much better if you walk yourself, it is only few minutes

Gulmarg Gondola

Reviewed By Rupesh_Mishra - Gurugram (Gurgaon), India

This is a review in generic about Gulmarg and specific about Gondola. My intentions of writing this is not to de-popularize the city but to to warn and caution the future travellers planning to visit the city. Maybe, after Reading my review they would not have to face what I have felt.
First of all, this small city has been controlled by local guys and would not allow any outsider to do the business. So, you have to pay Rs 50 to enter the Gondola, you can not have any guide from other city but you have to take one from Gulmarg itself (Although you do not need any guide at all).
Once you reach at the top, you woul find people who would force you to sledge or to skii and other activities. These are overpriced like hell and you have tp bargain like hell to know the actual price. I paid a lot to the sledge and thus would lile to warn you all do give the actual price. Approximately you have to give one fourth what they would price for the activities.
The guide would also not tell you the actual price
