Church of San Antonio

Reviewed By Paul B - Maastricht, The Netherlands

If you’re following the main narrow village streets in Frigiliana, you’ll definitely get to the charming Plaza de Iglesias, where the San Antonio de Padua church is located.
The church was built in 1676 and is named after the patron saint of Frigiliana.
A century after its construction, the church was refurbished and got its current appearance.
Like all the buildings in Frigiliana, the facades of this church are white-washed as well.
Some call the interior a ‘hidden gem’; I guess this is a bit to much honor, however the altar and the ornaments are lovely and charming indeed.
If the doors are open (mostly during daytime), a short visit is recommendable.

Great experience! The tour guide was perfect. He's multilingual and he is very happy and talkative. We paid and gave our signatures then he explained everything to us very easily. We were ready to set off 5 minutes later. The views were amazing and the route was awesome!! Top tip: wear basic clothes because you're gonna get very dusty. I had to put my shirt over my mouth and nose because I was breathing in dust, haha, so bring something to cover yours (a scarf for example). Fun for everyone! Recommend to all.

If you have time this Museum is worth visiting for around 20 to 30 mins. As others have said although small, there were interesting historical exhibits of items found in the region centuries BC.
There was also a lovely library upstairs which would offer nice respite from any crowds or the sun. Note it's closed 2 to 4 pm.

Don't expect a castle-it went away long ago, but the the views are stunning. There are a couple of signs about the potential risk of rogue donkeys (there is a rumour that they may bite if they don't like the look of you) but we didn't see any and the signs looked quite old-perhaps the donkeys are long gone too-like the castle.

Located on the corner of the taxi/bus stands below Plaza del Ingenio you can easily miss this attraction if you don’t know it’s there. Basically there are three different cabinets where for 1euro you can listen to/view the show in a choice of three or four different languages. We chose the animated chap with his parrot who gave a short run down on the town - we found it quite amusing and passing visitors were left wondering what it was all about.
I don’t know the history but it’s just not the sort of thing you’d expect to find here but well worth it for a few moments of amusement - go on - give it a try!

This place is my favorite in Frigiliana and I am glad that it's ratable now.
You'll find this little store when you walk up into the town from the parking garage.
They sell local wines, ice creams, souvenirs etc.
But what makes this place so special is the fact that they also have a small, but lovely outdoor Seating area, offering great views, where you can enjoy their wines.
Also other beverages (beer, sodas etc.) are inexpese and served with a small tapa (ham, cheese, olives, chorizo.
Service is very friendly.

One of the interesting surprises of Frigiliana is walking around the old part and discovering these set of panels in different locations, telling the history of the village from medieval to now!
As the village is on a hillside it also helps build your stamina to find these panels ;)
