I love the FIA. The shows are always different and interesting. The shows offer new and mind-expanding works. Even the permanent collection offers something for everyone. I find something new to look at every time I go to the FIA.

Crossroads Village & Huckleberry Railroad

Reviewed By jimgreiner - Fenton, Michigan

Many people don't think about Flint as a hotbed for cultural activities -- but all you have to do is spend some time and check the reviews for things to do in the area. And this one jumps out. It is hard to believe that an attraction as fabulous as this one isn't in Orlando, or Anaheim, or some place known for fabulous attractions. The railroad reminds me of the Disneyland rail ride but outfitted specially for Christmas with terrific light displays that absolutely shine in the night darkness. We took the 7:30 pm ride and it was remarkable. The "12 Days of Christmas" displays at the east end of the 45 minute ride were especially outstanding. Our grandchildren were glued to the windows and it was reasonably warm in the glorious wooden train cars, in spite of the cold outdoors.

Of course, none of the typical warm-weather attraction sites could have accommodated something like this in the winter. So be it. Even oldsters will enjoy it. And the village is a good attraction as well. We witnessed a very fun Christmas play in the theatre. We could have spent a lot more time there as well. We bought our tickets in August so plan ahead!

This newly build market is not only filled with fruits, vegetables and unique things, it’s also filled with great people and shops. If you visit almost any weekend there will be some kind of extra events. Maybe you’ll even see Santa and a couple handful of tubas playing Christmas songs.

Entering the Sloan Museum was a wonderful treat as a member of the 'cast' came up and provided my wife and I with a back story of real travelers on this ill fated ship. Gorgeous, over sized photos of the construction and mini-bios of real travelers lined the walls. As we explored further into the exhibit, we witnessed actual items retrieved from 12,000 feet below the Atlantic. An eerie feeling crept over us at the end of the exhibit as we learned the fate of our back story personas. While my wife was fortunate, to live another day, my character plunged beneath the waves, last seen by "my" son who clung to his mother in one of the life boats.

Our grandkids had such a great time we bought the annual family membership for under a hundred dollars. Lots of play stations with a super floor plan..special area for the very little ones. All hands on play areas including the theater which our kids loved, and a little community area complete with a post office, grocery store and pizazz aria. The kids loved it. Pack a lunch and stay awhile.

What a great day we spent at Applewood, the home of C. S. Mott. We took two guided tours of the house and one self-guided tour of the grounds. Our guide was knowledgeable about Mott, his family, and his home. Best of all, everything was free. Groups are small, and reservations are required.

We recently went to The Whiting in Flint to see Classic Albums Live perform the Beatles Abbey Road concert. Our seats were great. Comfortable & we had a great view of the awesome concert. We had to wait a little bit in line for drinks which were, of course, overpriced but at a concert that's expected. All in all, great venue to see a show. Free Parking too.

Love seeing the Vernor's Mural. It is on the side of the Greater Flint Arts Council. It has been artfully restored many times over the years.
