We stopped here to have some rest and dine. The lobby was somehow quiet unless a noisy group came in with screaming children and even more noisy dads.
The menu was only in Russian and English. No Armenian menu in Armenia - that's a nonsense!
The waiter - a young guy with slow and relaxed manners - mixed up everything we ordered: instead of grilled vegetables he brought grilled chicken, the ashtray arrived only in the end of the dinner despite of several offers. He wasn't able to explain what certain menu items are composed of...
And around the tables outside a couple of hens and a lazy cat were wandering ...
if it was a rural restaurant, it could have been taken as a local color, but when a place pretends to offer European standards at quite high (for Armenian population, at least) prices, that's becoming strange...
However, dishes were very tasty in fact and plates/glasses rather clean and tidy- that was merely the only benefit we got..

I was in Vanadzor to do some shopping and needed a quick bite. It took a while for me to be waited on, but the service was quick after that. The fried cheese was rather over-done, but of course tasty: it's fried cheese, after all.
It was pretty crowded even at 3PM, and some of the other food looked pretty good. I didn't have time to eat here more than once, though.

Don't get me wrong: I'm not sure the 'shot' hits the mark, but it was a welcome site for a restaurant to make such a good-faith effort at modernity in Vanadzor (not the only one to try, mind you, but one of the better results).
My wife & I ate here twice during our short stay. On our first night in town, it had a promising look for something like fusion dinners. Actually, the menu stays pretty traditional, but it does include some items which had western-enough flair to appeal to a broad traveling audience. Also, for those who are Armenian-challenged like me & my wife, the menu has English-like descriptions and pictures, and the wait-staff all seemed happy to tolerate our remedial attempts at communication. The food was solid, but not spectacular; the service was well-above par for Armenia; and the total cost was surprisingly reasonable.
We went back a second night just for tea & dessert, and while the desserts were not quite as good as we had hoped they would be, the tea service was quite good, and we were happy the second time around with the service and value.
By the time you make it to Vanadzor, you've probably had enough eating out experience in Armenia to know that there is a good chance that your first dinner selection may not actually be available, and the same was true for us: I couldn't get either of my first two choices at dinner and neither me nor my wife got our first choices for dessert...but at least the waiter told us that when we were trying to order rather than waiting to return with only one dish or nothing at all before laying it down.

Featuring Armenian & International cuisine, a bookstore/library rich with foreign language books, Wine from all over the world, Art & Articraft by Armenian craftspeople and artists, Carahunge Café is all about Armenia.

Stepanavan is one of the most beautiful cities in Armenia; however, it has poor roads dilapidated houses etc. Carahunge is a fore-runner. In the sense that it has created a beautiful venue where tourists can enjoy great food in friendly atmosphere and also has a collection of most delicious Armenian wines. If you're there check their sinks, it's genius. Carahunge has also created a library corner for local kids.
Great place, great job.

Pretty interesting center for Lori visitors. Level of customer service is high enough. Barbeque, salads and wine are indescribably delicious. Besides, here you can find souvenirs made of wood and clay by local artisans, see the armenian way of baking butter tipical to ancient times.
