Cracker Barrel

Reviewed By HobNobbin - Lawrence, Kansas

It's always fun to stretch your legs at a Cracker Barrel while driving, and this one was no disappointment. It's right off the interstate north of Gainesville. We stopped and enjoyed an early supper, including chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy and yummy cooked carrots. Biscuits and cornbread were also served, along with blackberry jam. Alas, no room for the double chocolate cake, which did look good!! After a short walk-about with purchases in the general store area, we were refreshed and ready to go again. Thank you, Cracker Barrel!

Rumpy's

Rumpy's is a store that sells various German bakery items and meats. Because they have tables/chairs for eating their wares, I called it a restaurant. It could be an "attraction" but I think that's a stretch because they mainly serve food, beverages, and gasoline...with a few local gifts. We stop there every trip to Texas because of their great goodies!

This place is a hidden gem. It is a combination German bakery and gas station. We got their Raspberry Strudel today – it was SO good. I never expected to accidentally stumble upon a fine German bakery in a gas station near the Texas/Oklahoma border on I-35. I really recommend stopping at Rumpy's for some fresh-made German pastry goodness - they're a little bit pricey, but worth every penny!

Starbucks

In a land where coffee most commonly is brewed from something that stays "fresh" for hours, and milk is a creamer in powder form - Starbucks is coffee heaven! Love the assortment, the design, and the croissants taste almost like made in France! Super friendly staff too!

Ok, its a Braums. You know what to expect but it is clean and the staff is helpful and I truly think you could live out of the place. Lots of variety and prices are good.

Sarah's On The Square

Reviewed By ectomlin - Livingston, Texas

A very pleasant discovery in a charming town off of I-35. We stopped for lunch and were greeted warmly, Service was unhurried, yet efficient, with several people bringing food. The brisket sandwich with raspberry chipotle sauce was tender and flavorful, the bun fresh. It came with a side of house made chips. The reuben sandwich came on fresh rye bread with a side of marvelous brisket broth, swimming in brisket bits surrounding chunks of potatoes. The Chicken Tortilla Soup came with slices of avocado decorating the center of the soup. It too was very flavorful. Presentation of food is exceptional. Food is fresh, the menu creative. Coffee is fresh - served in very large cups with a doily in the saucer. We had no room for dessert, but couldn't resist the house made lemon bar with raspberry drizzle and triple chocolate brownie with chocolate drizzle, which we had packaged to enjoy later.

We'll definitely come back to Sara's on return trips to the Dallas area!

We got their donuts and they were really good, it looks like an old Sonic, but you can sit on the inside and have quick bits for breakfast and lunch. Good food and good prices.

Stopped here while traveling on I-35 for lunch. Pretty good bbq for a chain and pretty consistent. Hard to go wrong with a Rib Crib. I had the barbarito with brisket rib crib style and my daughter had the St. Louis ribs. Both were very good. I would go again.

El Tapatio

Reviewed By Craig H - Columbus, Ohio

Stopped in for lunch with 5 people. Salsa and chips were a little below average, very bland and tomatoe'y. Ordered the chipotle chicken which came with tortillas. This was very good and tasty. Came with rice and beans. Overall OK, but could be better. I was told there is another El Tapatio and it is better.

The Main Street Pub

Reviewed By Kat L - Dallas, Texas

This is a very comfortable place to linger over conversation. The service was excellent and very much appreciated. It was easy to visit without a lot of interruptions, and our glasses were kept full.

The food was mediocre. Two adults with very small appetites - we had spinach Quesadillas and a bowl of jambalaya.

My friend had a few bites of the jambalaya and quit; he said it was too spicy for him. I liked the herbed tortillas used for the Quesadillas; the accompanying salsa and Pico were both bland and uninspired.

I will try a burger or meal next time I visit; I have a feeling I'll be happier with standard pub grub.

Fera's Italian Restaurant

It's on Yelp and Urbanspoon

Reviewed By TravelerLooseAbroad - Gainesville, Texas USA

The atmosphere is quiet, subdued and very conducive to conversation with family and/or friends. Tables give the feeling of privacy. The food is very, very good and service is excellent. The salads are fresh and the Italian entrees are excellent.
This is a restaurant you won't get tired of visiting time and again.
