Il cavaliere

Reviewed By Mr L - Foligno, Italy

I have eaten at Il Cavaliere a number of times and, in my opinion, it's the best restaurant in Foligno. It may very well be the best °Umbrian cuisine" restaurant in the area. The food is excellent, prepared without the over-embellishment of many establishments. Service is top-notch: knowledgeable and friendly staff. It's not an inexpensive experience, but I think you receive real value for your money.

Pizzeria Mancini

Reviewed By Botricello92 - Columbia, South Carolina

We stumbled upon this unique pizzeria one day while exploring Foligno and we had to return a few times before leaving the area. The "local" pizzas are made into sheets, cut into squares and then two pieces are served together on top of each other. DELICIOUS! The staff wore the traditional white hats and uniforms and they all had smiles on their faces. It is a tiny location where most order and take away or there is room for a couple of people to stand and eat. They are closed on Sundays and during the afternoons between lunch and dinner. As of our visit, there was no official sign on the shop when it was closed. When open they have two removable "pizzeria" signs. Grazie alla Pizzeria Mancini!

Osteria Dodici Rondini

Went here with a party of friends/colleagues for what we thought was going to be 'nibbles' and following a really depressing, heavy and greasy meal the night before in Assissi...this was the total opposite and totally restored our faith in the wonder of Italian cooking. Enter through an unprepossessing door, with no hint of the 'restaurant' about it, into a cheerful, bright interior to be welcomed by young, smiling, enthusiastic staff. Our meal had been pre-ordered and was a voyage of joyful discovery! a wonderful tomatoey starter, tart and pungent and moreish; light, melt-in-the-mouth tempura vegetables; sticky, risotto with the flavour of local truffles making it impossible not to eat even though I was full to bursting...rich, local wine completed the feast. If you find yourselves in Foligno - get yourselves there!

Emporio del Gusto

Reviewed By leisure-traveller44 - Northern England

For beer lovers, this must be paradise, with a huge array of beers from all over the world. We stuck to the wine, and to the Parma ham and cheese. Twice I had the cheese board, which features 6 different cheeses each month. This month there were two French, two Italian, one Spanish and one British, accompanied by three jellies/honey. These were expensive cheeses, hence the portions were quite small. Staff were very welcoming; there were free nibbles at the bar, which we didn't sample.

The food was great and the service fast. In a few words it's a nice restaurant were you can spend some time with friends in an original environment.

This restaurant has been open for only a month or so now and we have already returned twice. The opening night proved to be a success with an excellent assortment of antipasti, pizza from a wood burning oven, great artiginal beers and champagne. The two wood burning ovens in the dining rooms, create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The food is creative, modern and tasty. A great place that offers something for everyone. Enjoy!

Ristorante Da Angelo hosted my husband and I to sample our wedding menu whilst we made final arrangements for our event to be catered off-site by their partner business Angelo Ricevimenti.
Tonino and Emi were our hosts. The food was absolutely exquisite! As was the service.
We started with a glass of prosecco on the the Terrace, a beautiful sunny spot overlooking the garden, stream and woods.
Inside the restaurant we ate an 8 course meal featuring the highlights of Umbrian cuisine. Including Stringozzi served with black truffle, Sagrantino wine infused risotto, Chianina filet served with rosemary pesto and Colfiorito potato purée. They even served a mini mock up of our mille feuille and forest fruit wedding cake.
Every dish was bursting with flavour, whilst the quantity of food was just right considering the number of courses.
The presentation, attention to detail, food flavour and quality were excellent. The service was discreet and impeccable.
Do yourself a favour and go out of your way to dine here, you won't be disappointed!

We stopped in the small town of Capadacqua on our way across Umbria with friends and were so pleased we found this restaurant. The restaurant itself is very charming inside and the owners so friendly and welcoming. The food was also fresh, with menu times both from Umbria/Marche and Emilia-Romagna. We tried fried rabbit, which was very good, as was the lamb, and the pasta dishes were homemade and tasty (particularly the meat ragu). The liquor at the end of the meal was a special treat as well. This was a wonderful stop for dinner with very reasonable prices.

La Botteguccia Del Campo 64

Reviewed By Kate O - Sacramento, California

La Botteguccia--how can one describe such wonderful food and stupendous service with mere words? We chose La Botteguccia based on reviews for restaurants near Foligno that appeared to accommodate a large group such as ours. The map diverted us away from Foligno and into the Mountains where more than a few times we considered turning around. Where were we going?! Nirvana, il amico mio; we arrived at Nirvana.
Driving up to what appeared to be a truck stop, 11 of us walked in and were met with dozens of curious glances. It was as if the locals thought, "Oh no--the tourists found out secret!" Stefano day is outside on the back patio, where more than a few curious locals peeked out to observe us. Did we want to eat, or just a snack? Someone said we were there to eat, and that's when the true gastronomic adventure began.
First Stefano brought a young ricotta made by local shepherds, followed by a hearty bread. Toasted bread with local olive oil served alongside mouthwatering patè melted in our mouths. Next came a bean purée served like a soup, again drizzled with the local olive oil and a heaping plate sautéed greens. Did we forget to mention the bottomless bottles of local red wine?
At this point the food coma started to set in and we began to panic: we were only at the appetizer phase of the meal! In deference to our full bellies someone said 'yes' to the question of pasta with tartufi, and Stefano delighted us with yet another amazing dish.
Ready to find a nice soft spot on the ground for a nap, birthday cake arrived in the form of tiramisu and two types of panna cotta, complimented by glasses of Spumonti. 'Tap out!' someone said, only to be shushed as Stefano's beautiful wife delivered grappa and limoncello to our table. This was one of the most memorable meals we have had in our lives, and it's a guarantee that we will return soon!
