Levain Bakery

Nestled in New York City's Upper West Side, Levain headquarters is a cozy neighborhood bakery where locals are greeted by name. A steady stream of loyal regulars stand side by side with tourists, eager to sample the legendary baked goods. From an inventive array of rustic breads to the world-famous six-ounce chocolate chip walnut cookie, everything is baked on-site, fresh every day from the finest natural ingredients. What doesn't sell that day goes to help feed the hungry-a mission that has been solidly in place since the beginning. The bakery was founded in 1994 by friends Connie McDonald and Pam Weekes. At the time, Connie was in banking and Pam in Fashion. The two, both competitive swimmers, trained together for the Ironman and-not surprisingly, as their tireless workouts left them feeling starved for great food- they began a passionate dialog about creating the world's greatest chocolate chip cookie. Within just a few years, Levain Bakery had become a neighborhood institution and a destination for epicurious travelers from around the world. Demand continued to grow. In 2000, to satisfy their regular clientele summering in the Hamptons, the two opened a second bakery in the village of Wainscott on Long Island's East End. And today, through their website, they now ship their world-famous cookies to happy fans around the globe.

The best Chocolate Chip Walnut Cookie on Earth. This bakery doesn't have many options, but what they do is amazing! Their chocolate is just perfect - not overly sweet, but think and creamy. I thoroughly recommend this place to anyone as this is the best and biggest cookie in the city.

Been here forever. Get the hot dog ""ripped"- that is, well done so it splits on a toasted bun. Fries are outstanding. A vintage roadside stand that beats them all, anywhere. Very old with no updates. Kitchy. Outside bathroom and parking. Serves a good burger also. No gimmics.

I ordered the Yasai Vegetable Don bowl with a bottle of Golden Kolsch. The Don Bowl was very tasty with lots of vegetables. The wait staff were very courteous and friendly and they do have outdoor seating. The beer was flavorful; but extremely expensive at $12 a bottle which was a regular sized serving - about 12 ozs. Nice selection of menu items with an emphasis on the varied ramen dishes. Next time I'd like to try the ramen. I would recommend Jin Ramen; but next time I'd stay away from the $12 bottles of beer.

This intimate Italian restaurant offers a relatively small menu, but does everything very well. The vegetable and bean soup was stunning, filled with tasty, fresh vegetables. I had Pasta Integrale, whole wheat pasta with seasonable vegetables. The pasta was perfectly al dente, the vegetables fresh and varied, and the garlic and olive oil sauce rich in flavor. If I were on the upper west side I would return here in a heartbeat. Friendly and efficient service and reasonable prices complete the picture.

I was in NY bringing my son back to school and we stopped here to eat, 4 of us. We started with the beet salad and the spinach salad. Both were fresh and excellent. We then ordered 2 pies, a Margherita Pizza and the Burrata Pizza (which they only do Fri-Sunday). Both were excellent. I've eaten A LOT of pizza over the years and the pizzas we enjoyed are really the best Neapolitan Pizza's I've had. So good, in fact, we ordered a 3rd pizza, the Aglio Olio. I can't say enough good things. The place was clean, great atmosphere and a very friendly staff. Definitely worth the trip if you're uptown anywhere.

Love this place!!!!

A strip mall dedicated to 100% Japanese imports! Book store, gift shop, the main grocery store! The cafe area in the grocery store (CASH ONLY) is wonderful. Around 15 types of food choices - all authentic Japanese! Ramen, sushi, the rice ball stand is amazing! So simple yet so much flavor!

We came on a weekend and the parking lot was full! Had to loop around and finally found one- I am sure weekdays are not as busy!

We enjoyed eating lunch and having a yummy matcha tea drink before spending over two hours in the grocery store and book store combined!

Weather you like Japanese food or not, come here and explore around! So many new flavors and things you can try and love.

I got the chocolate chip and walnut cookie and the dark chocolate and peanut butter cookie.
While both cookies were wonderfully warm, fresh, and gooey (and remained remarkably so even after a 20-minute walk/subway ride to our hotel), I didn't find them significantly better than other fresh-baked cookies I've eaten-- at least, not better enough to be worth the line and price.

This is my go to steakhouse and I always recommend it to everyone.
