Top 10 restaurants in Bristol, United Kingdom (UK)

November 12, 2017 Rebbecca Marino

Bristol is a quirky British city with beautiful hilly vistas and plenty of historic sights to explore. Anyone interested in ships will have a blast aboard Brunel’s SS Great Britain, the world’s first great oceanliner, and the Matthew, a replica of the ship upon which John Cabot sailed to America in the 15th century. The graceful Clifton Suspension Bridge is another must-see.

Curry House

I was a regular customer of the Curry House in the mid eighties before relocating away from Bristol. I had always found their food to be of consistently high quality. During a recent visit to Bristol with my wife, we decided to try the restaurant again for a trip down memory lane. We were not disappointed. Now in the hands of next generation of family owners we were given a wonderfully warm and sincere welcome , even though they were unaware that we were returning customers. The restaurant now has a lovely fusion of modern presentation with traditional Asian cuisine . We found all courses to be beautifully cooked and
presented and the owners clearly have a passion and genuine desire to make their customers feel valued .New customers, you will not be disappointed.

Coronation Curry House

First visited in summer 2017 having just moved to the area and had an average experience. The service was extremely slow despite the restaurant being nearly empty (we think they had received lots of takeaway orders they hadn't been expecting) but the food was pretty good and we were given some free dishes to make up for the long wait. As it's so local we decided to give it a second shot.
We have now visited four times and the last three have been absolutely exceptional. The chicken tikka bhuna is one of the best curries I've ever tasted, and the rest of the food is consistently excellent too. The service is always super friendly, and the staff are eager to give advice and recommendations if you have any questions about the menu. The atmosphere is comfy and cozy. The place seems to have really turned itself around in the past 9 months or so (or maybe we just visited on a bad night first time around!)
Very happy to have this as our local Indian, and glad we gave it a second (and third, and fourth!) shot, and we will continue to visit.

Eat a Pitta

The Eat a Pitta falafel recipe originated in Grandma Yolandes' kitchen in the back streets of Algiers more than 70 years ago. As a kid I was always glued to my grandmothers side as she taught me how to make the perfect falafel, crispy on the outside, moist in the middle. Armed with my grandma's secret recipe and 12 years experience cooking in the restaurant biz, I realised my dream in November 2011 and opened 'eat a pitta' in St Nicholas market in Bristol. Since then we have spread the falafel love even further with 2 more outlets in Broadmead & Gloucester rd Nothing made Grandma Yolande happier than seeing her treasured family tradition live on through me. Come and try our delicious falafels at Eat a Pitta today! Hopefully you will be able to taste that little bit of magic in every bite!

A very popular street vendor- by lunch time, there is a huge queue and i'm not really surprised. The falafels are fantastic, and the hummus is creamy and flavoursome- i'd say it was the best hummus i've ever tasted. Very reasonably priced too! The staff are very efficient- they get your orders prepared fresh and quick and sometimes if they're feeling generous you can extra falafel thrown in!

Haven’t been here for a couple of years, but as I was visiting Bristol, I just had to have a lunchtime kebab from here!
I was not disappointed!
Every mouthful from the first to the last was equally delicious. The beautifully fresh flat-bread, filled with lovely marinated meats, halloumi, fresh salads and sauces all culminated into a flavour sensation.
The long queues of people in the know about Matina really do it justice, as this is place is a gem!
I already can’t wait to have my next one!!!

Would have got a 5 star, but for the odd lapse in some service. A shame because the food was very good.
They are friendly people, but the place was not even busy and they got my order wrong and also forgot a side item, that I had to ask for during eating the rest of it.
I first arrived and there were just a couple of diners. Its not clear if you had to seat yourself or order at the counter. There was no one to be seen for about 5 minutes at the counter. Its a typical Vegan set up, with a minimal chalk board menu and half a dozen choices.
Eventually ordered and the food and cup of tea came out piping hot and fresh. I ordered the jerk tofu with kale and chose noodles as the optional addition. It came out with rice and beans and by that point she had gone away out back and i was hungry and just ate it. No big deal, since i dont mind rice and beans, but it was still the wrong order. I had also ordered a side dish, but that was nowhere to be seen. Thought maybe it was on its way, but it didnt come and so had to ask where it was. They had just forgotten.
Perhaps i would have understood if it was busy, but the place was almost empty and didnt have a rush on etc.
Overall the food was still very good, very fresh and a good vegan choice in the city.

Booked up for a meal with friends because of the great trip advisor rating. For our ease, we had the set menu B for 5 people. It really was an amazing feast in terms of quality, taste and quantity. A truly excellent restaurant. Attentive staff, lovely food and enough to even take some home for breakfast. Don’t let the alcohol free thing put you off, you can have some non alcoholic beers and wine, enjoy the flavour and be able to drive home. Five very content and replete friends had a lovely time. Thank you for all your efforts. Brilliant.

Chris and Jo's Kitchen

We are a cooking duo, serving fresh, locally sourced food from our independently-run restaurant on St. Michael's Hill, Bristol. We pride ourselves on serving great quality, unpretentious food, made from scratch on site daily. We source the best produce available from the west country and cook it simply to showcase the ingredients. You won't find a foam or sphere on our menu!

A pleasant little restaurant at the top of St Michael’s Hill, it has quite an informal feel to it and feels as much like a café as it does a restaurant, especially with the counter towards the front of the premises where you perhaps expect to see a cash till and a selection of cakes. Service too was equally informal, with wine just being placed on the table for example, rather than poured. Not an issue for me, I’m quite happy with that, but I can imagine that some people may expect a little more if they’re being waited on.
The menu offered a decent looking selection of dishes with most of the main courses being around the £12 mark, so quite reasonably priced. Wines too were very well priced, with even the most expensive bottle of white coming in at £28. We got some complimentary bread to start, although rather than the usual crusty roll or perhaps something a little more interesting, this was just a slice of bread drizzled with some olive oil. I went for the butternut squash, chestnut and sage risotto to start, and this was a decent and tasty dish and a generous portion. Across the table, a plate of beer battered cod goujons was also very well received, and this too was a very generous portion, perhaps even a little too much for a starter.
For main courses, we both went for the slow roast belly of pork with roast garlic mash. Again, this was a very good dish, not quite as tasty as it could have been perhaps, in particular I didn’t think the roast garlic was particularly noticeable, but it was certainly, good honest cooking and very hearty. Desert choice was perhaps a little more limited with just three options to choose from, and I opted for the Bailey’s panna cotta with biscuit crumb, yoghurt sorbet and boozy dates. Not the sort of thing I would normally go for perhaps, but this too was a decent enough dish. Overall, I was quite impressed with this. Service was quick and efficient, although could have been a little friendlier perhaps. Not that it was unfriendly, that certainly wasn’t the case, but just a little more effort to smile or converse might have been good. Prices were very reasonable, and it made a refreshing change to see on the menu that a gratuity was neither necessary or expected. Much better than those places that think they can just whack 10% on without even asking. Overall, definitely worth a visit.

Casual fine dining. Imaginative Modern British cuisine

Reviewed By Christina075 - London, United Kingdom

Well the food and service and wine are still outstanding. But it’s such a chilly drafty building, we paid £170 for Two with wine flight but I sat in my ski coat for whole meal and it was my sexy valentine special meal . I saw at least one other diner in the ‘corridor’ area with his puffer jacket zipped up for whole meal.
I suggest for such wonderful cooking and wine that these guys bite the bullet and move to a less drafty venue.....your food and customers and prices deserve it!!! My husband is a ski instructor so we regularly eat out in Tigne etc where it is really cold and all the restaurants are toasty warm....it’s doable.
