Arbraska Rigaud

This is a great place to spend a few hours. The different courses are clearly identified by difficulty (beginner, intermediate, and difficult) you van do them as many times as you'd like (so go early), and the experience is truly exhilarating. I don't recommend this to children under 5', as it will be near impossible to do anything but the children's course.

L'Escapade Les Sentiers du Mont Rigaud

Rigaud, Quebec is a small town 45 min outside Montreal that really has nothing much to offer. It is the site of the Canada Border Services Agency Learning Centre, as well as Mount Rigaud Recreational Park. There's supposed to be some skiing available in winter, but I happened to go in June. Some friends and I happened upon the trail that would lead to the top of Mount Rigaud and decided to follow it. I was wearing sandals and the trek turned out to be quite a bit more than I anticipated. When we made it to the top, the view made the climb worthwhile, and as they say, coming down is always faster than going up! Highly recommended, but make sure you were proper hiking shoes!

Like a mini Cathedral set in the woods, located at the base of Mount Rigaud. Stopped by on the way down after a trek up the mountain. A great place to sit quietly and reflect.

Peppermaster

I have been eating, loving, and working with hot chili peppers since I was a kid of only eight years old. I remember selling peppers and limes to the tourists in Nassau at that time in 1962. Somewhere along the way, creating magical flavours has become my life’s work. I love sharing them with you and enhancing (and igniting) your every bite. My company manufactures food products made with real food ingredients for an ever growing list of companies. We use a slow fair trade philosophy and we are sensitive to keeping our food as close to the earth as we can for both Peppermaster and our other customers. In other words, EVERYTHING in the store, I, the Peppermaster, Greg Brooks, with the help of my kitchen staff, make in house. We welcome visitors from all over the world and particularly enjoy entertaining groups of up to 15 - 30 people. We offer sampling and at the right time of year and/or for the right size groups, will fire up the fire roaster. We do offer wheelchair access via the back door. If you can't visit the shop during usual hours; 9-5 weekdays, 10-5 weekends (exept Dec. 25-Jan 1)

I drove to Peppermaster to try some of their sauces. The bright red brick building is welcoming, and there's easy parking on the street.
You can taste anything in the store - the staff is very accommodating and has samples of everything (or they'll open a bottle for you) so you don't have to worry about buying it "taste unseen". They have the regular red labels as well as the yellow "junior" labels so there is a level of hotness for everyone... I liked the yellow, and my hubby liked the red, so we got some of both!
There are a variety of size bottles; larger bottles are for teaspoon/tablespoon uses; smaller bottles are typically hotter ( and therefore need less...). Although we thought at first that they were pricey, we find that we use so little that it lasts a long time!
I tasted several and ended up buying a variety for my own use as well as gifts for friends and family. Luckily they ship to the US as I needed refills pretty soon; everyone who tried the dishes we made with the sauce wanted a bottle of their own, so we placed a second order after only a few weeks to satisfy our guests' needs!

Centre Infotouriste de Rigaud

We almost always stop at this spot on our way to Montreal to use the washrooms, and inevitably one of us wanders into the fully bilingual Information Centre. The staff there are always well-informed regarding travel throughout the Province of Quebec, and anticipate your needs, offering regional booklets, maps, and suggestions. (Quebec Tourisme produces fantastic materials.) On our trip a few weeks ago, the woman behind the counter asked if we were heading into downtown Montreal and promptly checked the traffic conditions. She recommended an alternative route because of the construction congestion, which we took, and will likely take in future as it's a more pleasant drive.
We mentioned a possible trip to another area of Quebec, about 700 km away and again, she provided information about alternative routes to make the drive more interesting and was knowledgeable about travel times, Ferries, best routes for entering the bigger cities and so on.
Others I have spoken to have said their experiences with this Centre have also been exceptional.
There are fast food restaurants inside and gas stations nearby.

It was a beautiful two spire church. A nice old church in the center of town. It's a great piece of architecture both inside and out.
