Nice place for young children, although the park could use some renovation. The kids don't mind the older attractions and they love the activities: camel ride, circus show (1 hour), poney ride, water circuit, train ride, Playgrounds, a small zoo, etc.

Beervelde Park

Beervelde Park is situated near the City of Ghent, in the very heart of an area famous for its horticulture. Spread over an area of 25 hectares, its stunning architectural features, copses, woodland, meadows, walled Gardens and lake, create a splendit unified landscape full of superb vieuws. The estate was designed in 1873 in what is called (at least in France and Belgium) the English Landscape style. It was intended to serve as a display for what was at the time, a young Belgian horticulture. Ever since, Beervelde Park has been the property of the Counts de Kerchove de Denterghem. Today, 135 years later, it is remarkable to note that the de Kerchove de Denterghem name is still linked to the promotion of horticulture. Count Andre is the former chairman of the Royal Society for Agriculture and Botany, the non-profit organisation which organizes the world famous 'Floralies of Ghent' every five years. His brother, Count Renaud, is today's curator of the estate and organiser of the Beervelde's Garden Days, a fair which takes place every second weekend of May and October.

The Cafe Posthotel is the former dining room of the former Post Hotel. The original late 19th century neo-renaissance decoration including interesting old murals is intact. This old survival's worth a visit to otherwise pretty dreary Wetteren. Good coffee which came with a Fairtrade Belgian chocolate. The only negative is a couple of hideous ceiling lights.

This Chapel is on the inside of the “Saint Joseph Institute” and are from 1935/1936.
The chapel is one of the most remarkable religious buildings.
The influences of the “Art Deco”, “Romantic Cubism” and the local “Brick Culture” are in harmony with the “Early Christian” and the “Byzantine” art.
You find this Chapel in the, Wegvoeringstraat 63, in Wetteren.
Unfortunately the “Saint Joseph Chapel” can only be visited by accompanied groups, and this after there has being made an appointment into the office of Tourism and Events.
So sorry again, no pictures of the inside.

Je kan er nog steeds heerlijk wandelen. De paden liggen er goed bij. Het geheel komt wel een beetje slordig over. Hier mist men iemand met een hart voor dit mooie park. In de brasserie bij het park kan men honger stillen en dorst lessen.
