This very small church is located just inside the entrance portal to the town. The church dates from the 12th century and was mainly used by the garrison stationed at the castle and the local villagers. Inside are frescos dating from the 14th centruy. Well worth stopping to see.

If you don't mind bustling crowds this place is well worth a visit - it is beautiful!
Numerous restaurants, gellatto shops, clothes/shoes/bag shops etc. Narrow streets, gorgeous buildings, arches, a church, a castle, a grotto, a spa and Maria Callas (diva - opera) singers villa and more.
Take a boat ride around the peninsula for spectacular views on the Emerald green lake.
Well worth a visit IMO.

Jamaica Beach

You can actually walk around the whole point of the peninsual, and I strongly adice you do!
Most of the walk is on uneven rock, but quite manageable if you are reasonably fit and not wearing heels or flipflops.
The walk takes you past the small public Pebble Beach close to town, past luxury estates onto the expanse of flat rock that is Jamaica beach. The water is clear and nice, the light beatifull and as you continue you will see the grotto of Catullo up high before catching a walkway returning you by the spa!

Grotte di Catullo

Reviewed By Bobscott72 - Crete, Greece

Fascinating set of old ruins. Very extensive and well cared for. Interesting to see some on-going excavations. Buy a joint ticket for the castle and the Grotto (€ 10). Within easy walking distance from the old town (20 minutes) or about 4 minutes by the 'little train' from the Hydrotherapy centre area on the western edge of the old town. Not as confusing as it might sound!

Rocca Scaligera di Sirmione

Reviewed By DonPaulo - Richmond, Virginia

The castle probably dates from the 13th Century CE, when the Scaliger Family assumed control of Sirmione. The castle is completely surrounded by water and the old harbor is still within its fortifications. The tower is accessible and offers a fine view of the southern shore of Lake Garda.
You must pass through the castle to get to the northern end of the peninsula. This is a highly photogenic place and worth a pause, even if you do not go into the castle itself.

This 15th century church is the Parish Church of Sirmione. Entrance is by either the side door on Via Santa Maria Maggiore or through the columned Portico on the west end of the church. It is a peaceful place to stroll around and relax. There is a nice garden area on the lake side of the chiesa.

I have been here in December 2011, in the last day of the year.
Omg what an amazing place.
The view is absolutely stunning... You see the beautiful and amazing Mountains in the back, with all the snow and that big wonderful lake.
Even the walk to the lake is an amazing way to spend an afternoon.
Absolutely recommend.
