This place is really interesting even though you won't find tigers and lions here. However, you will get a good glimpse into how life in the shallow waters and streams of Freshwater is in Denmark. I would encourage you to pack some swim-suits (or extra clothes) for your kids and visit this place in warm weather. Outside is an amazing playground with lots of water and activities!

Rovfugleshow

Reviewed By Michael P - Hjärup, Skåne Län, Sweden

When you first arrive, it may not look like much, but when the show starts, you'll not be sorry you came.
We visited on a Saturday. A Saturday in what was the last week of the peak season, and on top of that probably one of the first rainy days after a long hot summer.
We got there early, which gave us time to explore the Owl Forrest, a little quiz in the forrest that will help you pass time, and also a chance to see some deer up close.
When it started to really pour Down, we ran for the picknick area and took shelter. It's possible to grill here, but we had food prepared from home, plust the rain didn't really do any good for the grilling.
The doors opened about 30 minutes before show start, and at that time the falconer (Flemming, with the long beard) came out and welcomed the guests, bringing a few of the birds with him, meaning you get the chance to see some of the birds really close, even pet them.
As if on cue, the rain stopped when the doors opened, but some potential visitors may have given up at this point, leaving the rest of us with a less crowded audience. Probably not what you if this is how you make a living, but as a spectator, I like it when shows like these are not too crowded.
They have 43 birds in all, naturally not all of these parttake in the show, but you will see small bird, big birds, hawks, eagles and owls, with the bisons making for a pretty good backdrop.
The falconer loves the birds and he puts on a really good show, served with a sense of humor. You are likely to learn a thing or two as well.
If you are Lucky, and if you dare, you can parttake in the show yourself, which I was lucky enough to try. It's quite something to stand with a big bird on you arm, especially since most of us only see these creature on TV. If we see them in nature, it's far away. Here, I had a big bird on my arm!
I assume the lenght of the show depends a little on how big the crowd is, but I don't think 45-60 is too far off the mark.
As stated, do yourself a favor and try this place out. It's value for Money and you don't ahve to commit to a full day of activities.

We were here Wednesday last week on a scorching hot day so it was nice to get out of sun. Lovely grassed areas and lots of benches. Small museum you find them in most towns, some local history, a whole area devoted to the building of the moterway- yawn. But the Tolling Mand (man) was well worth the visit- new 3D interactive information was well done too. Teens enjoyed trying chain mail armour on & posing. Museum shop was nice, staff lovely, under 18's free and only 50kr for adults. Cafe looked spacious and reasonably priced but we didn't try it. We spent over an hour in all. There was also a children's building where activities take place which wasn't appropriate for my teens.

Silkeborg Bibliotek

Reviewed By Stephen M - Honiton, United Kingdom

A group of us (academic & public librarians) visited to see why this library was offered up as the pioneer of RFID technology in Denmark. It was easy to see why - the librarian had somehow managed to ensure that his library had the most advanced forms of self-issue and self-return equipment available. We were (and are) so glad that he had made the effort - we (the rest of Europe) have followed in his footsteps and have since advanced how we use the technology....but it really was here that it all started. It was here that he had developed a new style of library 'front line services' that really did work for, rather than in spite of, their users. I've been forever grateful....

From the center of the city you can catch bus no.10 which goes there. We rode bikes from the city and there are many bike tracks through the woods that you can take. The Gardens are amazing and there is interesting art both in the Gardens and in the museum. It is very much with the visit.

There are 80 different makes of vehicle, representing European and American cars and motorcycles from 1900 to 1960. Check opening hours before driving out to see it. There are toilets but no cafe.
