Looked forward to this one as the similar attraction in Plzen is so good. Didn't disappoint! Full of things to play with, temporary and permanent exhibits. They also have other facets like a planeterium cinema and robot lego creatures you can control. It's much better than the tacky babylon center across the street. Canteen was not fine dining but certainly not bad as some reviewers have stated.

We visited the factory and museum one Monday in February and it was a very interesting experience. First, we learnt the history of the production of wooden toys in the factory (we identified) many toys we and our parents played with when we/they were children and then a young smiling lady enabled us to pass through the factory explaining us how the toys are produced from the beginning (wood) to the end (toy). Her speech was well-adapted to the very young audience (children) who was very interested in the various machines and procedures. At the end of the visit she mentionned that our children could make some wooden toys for themselves in the workshop. For a price of 40 Czk we had a bag of colorful wooden pieces (certainly having been eliminated from the production as substandard) and a cup of glue. My son spent next 2 hours by connecting the pieces with the glue making fantastic toys and he was not all alone in the workshop - it was full of children! A cosy coffee shop next to the workshop allowed us to take a quick basic lunch (only cold food and drinks). The factory shop offers all the products the factory produces for a direct sale (not those it produces p.e. for Ravensburger and others).

I live fairly local so I thought that I should try to boost the popularity of this gorgeous place. As others have already said this is more a Chateau than castle (a bit of Czech poetic licence). Beautifully appointed building with a relaxing garden and the most lovely orangery. The house tour is a bit brisk and yes you will have to read a pamphlet if you don`t speak Czech.
I can`t comment on the hotel because I do live close by; reliable friends tell me it is great, but with international prices, not the usual low costs associated with this country. However, opposite the main entrance gate there is a bar and restaurant that does cater for the more budget minded among us.

If you have time in mala skala, or you have just come back from a trip on the river, take a short hike up to Vranov. The trail starts behind the pizzeria, and goes up for about half an hour.
When you arrive to vranov follow the tour by numbers going into the castle and above on the rocks.
Nice views and an impressive place.

Nice place to visit in the hot summer! Water is relatively clean, area is nice. Not crowdy, a lot of space. You can park your car just in 100 meters in any parking space close to buidlings for free.
The only negative thing was we've seen a lot of wasps. Probably because of very hot summer in CZ.
