Really beautiful, moving and interesting trip. One warning - the cafe is insanely expensive so do take refreshments (including plenty of water) with you as there is no where else to buy. A small bottle of water was over £3.
That said, do not be put off, this is a beautiful place and well worth the visit. Not very disabled accessible.
Do take swim things, we loved our dip in the sea, but don’t expect great changing conditions - we’re British though, so no probs changing under a towel!

We went to this fishing village for the food and especially liked Ostria, (and heard very good reviews by locals for his restaurant as well as Giovanni) on the water watching brave swimmers master the rocks to get in the water. From the restaurant we go see the former keeper colony, now a major tourist site reachable by boats from Plaka, Elounda and Agios Nicolas.
The small stores were different from the average tourist souvenir shops, funky and more original. Very pleasant, quiet and slightly off the beaten track.

This not a zoo or a park really this is a working place where extinct or nearly are bred and let back into the wild there's really fun bits not for the faint hearted and some great work taking place here ....it's very well organised and you are told to move along but it's for a reason soooo everyone can enjoy and learn and €5 extra is better than ticket price having an add on if you don't want extra it's still brilliant pretty steep in places but WE LOVED IT

Around 2k out of Ag Nik on the bottom road towards Elounda is situated Havania beach its around - near the Havania hotel complex along with a few other (you pass the Creten Olive Farm outlet if your coming from Ag Nik)..
Parking available on the top road and at the lower shelf area here, the Havania offers a Cafe - bar right on the beach front along with toilets and sun beds at the local pricing of note the beach has no shelter from the sun so a hire out is the only option here.
Sandy beach gives way to pebbles into the sea that's manageable the water does shelf fairly quickly here.
Snacks at the Cafe-bar are good value and plentiful on the plate side !.. a favorite here is the frappie coffee.
A nice place to laze away the day interspersed with a swim cool off, cafe and and back on beach.

The Beach is lovely and a real Jewel for the lovely 'Island' with so much history... A lovely day out after a walk over the hill to get there... nope, not generally in holiday season, when the Spinalonga boat trips arrive it becomes over-crowded, littered with all sorts of rubbish (which can impact the local sea and land life).... Plenty of other Beaches around Elounda are available but the Island of Kolokithia offers much more to visitors than the beach...

Actually it's only 64 meters deep but there are plenty of fish, and the setting is definitely quite photogenic, both at night and day. And there are various cafes, and restaurants and bars to entice the visitor, and plenty of friendly enticers trying hard to tempt you in. We liked it, and we thought the restaurant we were in wasn't too overpriced or touristy. Lucky us! It's worth a visit if you are there.

Lovely wide, clean beach with safe, shallow waters. Sunbeds and parasols can be hired for a small fee.
Water sports available and a well stocked snack bar.
The views out and across to the Mountains are spectacular.
Lovely place to spend a day with ample parking if you drive out to it. The beach is also walkable from Agios Nikolaos, and it's a pleasant scenic walk.
