Ashworth Barracks

The charitable aims of the Victoria Cross Trust who own the museum, fall into 2 main categories, firstly to restore the final resting places of VC recipients not in the care of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. Secondly to educate the public as their lives and citation details ( why they were awarded a VC). The creation of a museum meets our second charitable aim and income from the museum will cover the first.

Fantastic afternoon, started with lunch at the Ramada hotel, followed by a up close and personal look around the Vulcan Bomber. The engine run was totally amazing you just cannot believe the sound and power of the aircraft. A real must for any aviation enthusiast. All the staff are volunteers and are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about the Vulcan.

I would most recommend getting the annual passes if you live nearby. The range of animals is great and the enclosures are very open and well thought out. There’s a couple of great play areas and the interactive activities (eg. Bug talk) were a hit with my three year old nephew. Fully recommend taking a picnic as the café prices are ridiculous.

I would recommend budgeting about half a day here, you might get away with the full day but this place is great. It has lots of different aircraft, new and old to view. You can sit in the cockpit area of some aircraft, giving you a hands on feel on what pilots use to fly the aircraft. Ticket prices are reasonable and has a neat little toy shop at you make your way in/out. Really pleasant staff, great parking spaces. Only thing to be mindful of is lack of catering facilities, there is a subway not far from the museum near Doncaster stadium, or catering facilities around lakeside outlet. Parking was easy as we visited on a day with few visitors. I'd reccomend visiting to anyone who loves history and/or aircrafts. There is a facility at the back of the museum built to show the horrors of the blitz in 1940, amazing effort on this. I would highly recommend to everybody.

Visited late March, and thankfully all the renovations have been completed.
The entrance hall looked grand, and the real highlight was the new billiard room, which looks tremendous and made me really want a game!
The great thing about Brodsworth is that everything has been left in how it was, including the snooker balls which have seriously faded in colour.
Top day out, and the Gardens are superb.

Conisbrough Castle

This romantic castle with stunning views over Conisbrough, inspired Sir Walter Scott's Ivanhoe and still fires the imagination today. With floors and roof restored in the lofty circular keep you can fully appreciate the magnificence of the original 12th century building. Delve into the medieval world of Lord and Lady de Warenne, and enjoy the grassy areas around the castle walls for games and picnics

Great spot with amazing views. Mostly outside, great for the kids! Lots to investigate but not a great deal inside castle to read about. Visitor centre had the exhibition and the information was fairly good and detailed. Looks like they will improve the cafe at some point which would be good and the Shop was quite good. Great place to visit.
