Fondazione Palazzo Albizzini Collezione Burri

Split in 2 parts between the 'Palazzo Albizzini' in Citta di Castello and the 'Essiccatoi del Tabacco' on the outskirt of this town, the Museum was set up by the great artist Alberto Burri before his untimely Death (1995). Even persons not very familiar with the esoterism of modern art will enjoy this fabulous display of different, esxciting works; 'Sacchi', 'Combustioni', Gretto' etc, superbly displayed and very well cared for by a passionate team of professionals. A very nice place to visit and enjoy in one of the less known, but still very beautiful, parts of Italy

Interesting art collection housed in a well cared for museum with stunning external scraffito by Vasari and delightful Gardens. Very helpful and well informed staff. We were very fortunate to have a guided tour of the current ceramics exhibition - Terrae - La Ceramica Nell'informale e Nella Ricerca Contemporanea - conducted by the curator Lorenzo Fiorucci. It was absolutely fascinating. If you are in Citta di Castello before 1st November 2015 - I really recommend you visit the beautiful Pinacoteca Comunale and see this exceptional exhibition.

Cattedrale dei Santi Florido e Amanzio

This Duomo doesn't look that interesting from the outside. The inside is a different story: many beautiful frescos and a nice ceiling. But don't forget to visit the crypt below the Duomo. It's almost a complete church in itself, with statues and a beautiful ceiling above the sarcophagus of San Florido.

Museo del Duomo

Wander past the main entrance to the Cathedral church, and you come to the museum entrance: Enter it to see some truly fantastic treasures.
The Canoscio Treasure dates from the 5th century and includes a collection of pots, dishes and liturgical objects discovered before the Second World War at nearby Canoscio. The chance find is unbelievably fine.
Throughout the museum are pieces linked with services, church leaders and papal occasions.
It is well worth a visit - even a diversion from your planned trip.
Among the important paintings in the museum are the “Madonna and Child with St. John”, attributed to Bernardino di Betto (known as Il Pinturicchio, 1454-1513), a pupil of Perugino.

If you like anything to do with fabrics, this is the museum to go to. It will take you an hour, tops, to see where the Franchettis started a looming industry. Volunteers continue to loom fabulous linens of all varieties to keep the art and museum going. Be sure to see the classroom which Maria Montessori helped establish for the children of unwed mothers working the looms. She was only in Citta di Castello for a year, but she made an important contribution to it. Also, be sure to ask for a tour of the actual looms. If you're lucky, your tour guide can give you a demonstration of how the looms work.

Vietato scattare foto
