Sprudelhof Bad Nauheim

Reviewed By Art4All - Scotland, UK

Few international travellers are probably aware of Bad Nauheim let alone its art nouveau spa complex called Sprudelhof which is a real missed opportunity. If you have an interest in the well known art nouveau cities of say Barcelona, Brussels, Nancy and Glasgow then head for this small city just 30 minutes by train north of Frankfurt. It's a compact city of just 30,000 people with plenty of parks and walking trails. The overall impression is of a gentle place which came to prominence in 1900 with the building of various treatment baths where the well-to-do took the local spa water. Go visit the various, individually designed bath houses and help support the local society who aims to restore these buildings back to their former glory.
Oh, and of course, Bad Nauheim's other claim to fame is that it's where Elvis Presley stayed when he was serving in the American army.

Friedberg Castle

Reviewed By Fira T - Hesse, Germany

We visited the castle on April, while me and my fiance doing our shopping arround Friedberg. We walked from downtown Friedberg to the castle. I was so fascinated by the castle with its gates, but found it so strange that there is some banner saying 'happy graduation' , later my fiance explain, inside this castle, there is a school, office and there is also few residences who lives inside the castle wall.
I never visited any castle before in my life, so I couldn't compare, but I like this castle, its building. the houses inside it, esp those timber houses and the cobblestoned walk. As we visited it on wednesday, we dont have a chance to enter the tower,Adolfsturm. The tower open every Saturday and Sunday from early April to end of October. I always fascinated with the fairy tales, and visited this little castle, bring all my imagination to those brother grimms tales.
I love photography so i snaped many pictures, from the architectures to the surrounding. My favorite is the Adolfsturm and the burgkirche. And there is also a building, look like a little palace or so, my Fiance said now it being used as some financial office or so.
I wish i could spent more time here, but it was cold early spring day, but soon ill be back here again.

Forderverein Hausbergturm

If you are visiting any of the towns in the Butzbach area, you really should look up the Hausbergturm. It is an observation tower on one of the high Mountains west of town. There is a half mile or so walk, steady incline to the tower, through wonderful woods and with informational displays along the way. The view from the top is really spectacular, and the tower is substantial and steady, so you can just enjoy the sights and not worry about your safety.

This is an amazing construction. When I was a kid we went there to play,it was nice and cool in the summer. This Gradierwerk is build out of branches and the salt sole was pump on to the top by this water wheel you see in the picture.the purpose was to take the sole to a cookhouse to produce salt.During my youth there was a chain of these constructions, unfortunaly most of them were destroyed.Today it is still a piece full place to relax and listen to the soft falling water.

Judenbad

Reviewed By exploreforfun - Toronto

This is the site of an ancient Mikvah, and if you are in the area, definitely worth a visit. You might miss it as the door is very unassuming. According to the information provided this bath dates back to the middle of the 13th century. You pass through a brick archway and descend seven flights of stairs almost to the level of a deep clear water Reservoir. The light shines from the octagonal skylight. This bath was repaired in 1903, and it was these masons who noted the early markings denoting the original inscriptions. This not an expensive outing, €2 or lengthy, perhaps 30 minutes. It is closed from 12 to 14:00. A brochure is given to that provides the details of the architecture. If you leave the house, stroll down the street to see more of the area, including the memorial site of the Synagogue.

Shame the current owners can not let you in. I was told will not allow visitors. Anyway after all these years it is nice to see where Elvis stayed with his family renting the house from Frau Pieper at an inflated rate.

Alligator-Action Farm

Reviewed By Steffen R
