Very big and cozy cafe. Service is okay, food came out a little slow. I had a cold chocolate flavored coffee and some fried chicken wings. I really liked both, they were good. The prices are normal for "Western" style foods, the coffee was 30rmb; most of their coffees were around that price.

This is a small restaurant that is very popular with the locals, one of whom tipped me off. I went for supper one night last week end and all tables were occupied. Was alone, so I sat at the bar where I could watch the sushi chefs work their magic.
Portions were generous and the tuna, mackerel and salmon sashimi were very fresh. They made their own sauce on premises, which was a combination of pickled ginger and wasabi. Dipped in that plus soy sauce on the side.
One of the friendly waitresses told me about the specialty of the house, which was a huge arctic clam, brought in from somewhere to the north. I had never eaten one, and was hesitant at first, but followed her suggestion. What came out was a form of delicious art.
I also had an order of prawn tempura and a plate of green vegetables for balance and was extremely pleased with the quality of all items. The place was humming and busy, but service was attentive, especially where I was sitting.
Wound up spending almost 200 RMB, which is a lot for a third-tier inland city. But I have no hesitation to say it was well worth it. I would love to go back.

This place is more well known for its late night yum cha (after 10.30pm this is common in Taishan) but we had a banquet there as there were 22 of us. The food was totally fine and i could have been what we ordered but it was an acquired taste. One dish had things in it resembling the taste of salty plums (wasn't sure I enjoyed it but some may like it). They had run out of all roast pork (and we were there 7pm on a monday). So did they sell out or were they just poor at inventory control. They were slow bringing out drinks, so i would say the service was not to western standards. The yum cha looked nice; and to give you an idea of what I thought of the dinner?; well i was still hungry enough to try yum cha afterwards. The banquet though was only A$20 each. Cheap by sydney standards but expensive for Taishan. If they had the roast pork maybe i would have rated this place higher

Food is decent but I would not pay to eat this food. Good thing I stayed at the hotel and received free breakfast voucher. With the number or workers here, they should constantly refill/refresh the food in the buffet. I enjoy that the restaurant was smokefree, very refreshing and enjoyable the eat without taking in second hand smoke. But it's sad that this place is considered the top restaurant in the area
