On a recent road trip to Corpus Christi we stopped at The Gumbo in Refugio for lunch. Extensive menu at great prices - both seafood and Tex Mex. We selected seafood - one had the gumbo, followed by the best grilled tilapia with rice. Delicious. I had fresh ceviche on a tostado and boiled shrimp - excellent. Other than the a/c was freezing it was a nice place to stop for lunch.

Workers stood around on the cellphone, talking to each other and ignoring the counter. The lady working the drive-in window would not go to the pass-through window to get orders, but waited for someone to bring them to her. Only one little girl was covering the counter, the pass-through and had to make the waffle bowls too.

We have started looking for and stopping at the DQs that appear to have a new building or newly renovated. Here we had the chicken strips and gravy along with Texas toast. Really very good and service with a smile. Excellent stop in a very small town.

After finding The Frosty off the beaten path in Woodsboro, TX I just want to say thank goodness for mobile apps with crowd-sourced reviews. This place is s tiny treasure. We were on the third day of travel from Maryland to South Padre Island and looking for a decent lunch. The area we were in didn't have a lot to offer. The Frosty came up with good reviews. It has outside window service, but dine inside. It has a great retro vibe, bright and cheery. We were a party of 3 adults with a variety of order choices. My husband got 3 tacos, which were crispy and delicious. Our daughter got the tuna avocado salad. Oh my! It was amazing. 2 avocados, halved and filled with delicious tuna salad, in a bed of crisp, fresh spinach. I don't know what kind of tuna it was, but it was so good. My BLT with avocado and side of tater tots was very good. We got two hand-spun milkshakes to go, which were outstanding. The staff were pleasant and efficient. We spoke to the owner for a while and what a great guy! He really cares about customer service and customer satisfaction. His pride in his restaurant is apparent and well deserved. I need to find a reason so go back to that part of Texas to eat there again.

Whenever we are in Texas we always stop at Whataburger. It is one of our favorite restaurants. It is priced economical and it is tasting delicious and reminds me of burgers of the old date with the sizes. It blows awake all national chains example 5 guys.

We have been to Tuttle's Grocery Market for lunch many times and the food has always been excellent !!! They process & cut their own meat, freshly prepared meals & deserts. Very clean / neat dining area. They also have a full line of groceries & Butcher Shop & unique souvenir section.
Tuttle's is a place you definitely want to visit if your in the Woodsboro, Texas area.

The time it takes the food to come out has improved. On top of that, I tried the chicken fried chicken and OMG! it was awesome. I am one of those people that can eat chicken almost every meal so I am pretty picky about it. The chicken was well seasoned and very moist, could cut it with a fork. One thing though, if you are a light eater, ask for 1/2 order or prepare to take some home. Well worth it!

On our way from Houston to South Texas, Refugio is the halfway point. Went to the other place on the way down and was not impressed. On the way home, we tried this place. I've got to tell you...this place is the real deal!! You wouldn't know it looking at the menu. Had the chicken soup, it was fantastic. The chicken taco and fajitas have a ton of flavor, but the star is the tacos al pastor. Amazing!!! Many levels of flavor that you will rarely find at other Mexican restaurants. Add to that the homemade flour and corn tortillas makes this the place to go. Great service and really nice people, too.

Home of The Original Golden Tenders, Golden Chick is a fast food restaurant chain offering Golden Fried or Roast Chicken, Fried Catfish, Sandwiches, Fresh Salads, Yeast Rolls and a variety of Sides.
Fairly busy place at lunch but with plenty of sitting area.
The spicy chicken strips are good but the rolls are the best...soft and buttery.
The restaurant was clean and staff was friendly.
The little town seems to stay pretty busy with all the Hwy 77 traffic.

Don't judge a restaurant by its building. You need to stop here and eat the buffet. The carne guisada, cheese enchiladas, and tostadas are excellent. There's also homemade tortillas, fresh fruit, and great salsa. The service was friendly and the price is reasonable. The bathrooms need some attention, but It's not terrible.
