I have visited here several times and consistently been impressed. Last visit, the owner was greeting regulars with hugs and asking after their family. As a gesture of good will, the owner gave my niece a Christmas present of a really cute stuffed animal. Also, they charge more for fake syrup...which is awesome.
The variety of food is wonderful. They offer many different variations of pancakes, including lots of fancy fruit and ice cream creations.
Downstairs is a great gift store where they sell Vermont merchandise (shirts, stuffed moose, trains...). Upstairs, you can get a variety of sizes of maple syrup at a quite reasonable price. Often, they let you sample any of the varieties.
Go for the experience, service, maple syrup and the food!

We were there in October 2015. We went to Killington for a wedding and it was our first evening. The pub is very nice - and it looks really irish and authentic - inside is even a real tree!
We just had a little veggie-burger and some chips. It was ok.
And the Guinness was really good. With a shamrock on the foam...
I would go there again.

Excellent selection on the menu of meats, seafood and good for the vegetarian too. As the name suggests root vegetables are part of the offerings. Even the simplest of foods were elegantly prepared and tasted that way! Get away from the crowd on Killington Road and make the 10 mile drive to Rutland. Well worth it.

Stopped after a day. Of skiing for some coffee drinks.
The expresso drinks were very. Good and reasonably priced. The atmosphere is very pleasant. There is art for viewing and for sale. On Wednesday nights there is open mike night. The menu looks very good, however we did not eat ther. I would highly recommend

For all the euphoric flavors you can't get enough of - especially the ones you can't get in ordinary stores - nobody scoops Ben & Jerry's better than we do at our scoop shops.
Health conscious, low-fat diets would see a red flag if Ben & Jerry's is mentioned. But, even for those of us who lean toward the fat-free, non-dairy types of food need a treat once in a while. So, if you have a hankering for ice cream, and there is a Ben & Jerry's nearby, this is what we choose, so we went slightly out of our way to enjoy a Coffee Coffee Buzz Buzz with hot fudge sauce. Ice cream in general is high-fat and mega-dairy. There is evidence to show that casein (a dominant milk protein) leads to several cancers, so we try to avoid ice cream (see "The China Study" and "Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease"). That being said, we treat ourselves to Ben & Jerry's for an occasional ice cream fix. This one on the road to Woodstock, VT, filled the bill.

The locals of Rutland have enjoyed their "grinders" from Gills for generations. I know people that have moved away, been gone for over a year, and stop at Gills before going home!

We were lucky enough to find this lovely little BnB for a spur-of-the-moment trip, and were thrilled with what we found. We received an upgrade without asking (a real treat!), and our room (Elliott's Room) was spacious, quiet, and lovely in every respect. We chose to dine at the inn and were delighted with the options, the quality of the food (all farm-to-table), and the very fine service. I chose the pork schnitzel, which was accompanied by a creamy basil-inflected orzo and steamed asparagus, my spouse a delicious pork tenderloin cooked perfectly (medium rare), with polenta and chanterelle mushrooms. His fresh tomato gazpacho and my corn chowder were excellent starters. The drinks were very good as well, with an extensive list of liquors that included a number of small local and regional distilleries. Breakfast was excellent as well, with fresh pastries, the choice of an omelette or white chocolate pancakes, and rich strong coffee. The staff was quite accommodating, The inn is close to Rutland (maybe 6 miles) yet a world away--quiet and peaceful. We loved the place!

My whole family loves this restaurant. The service is great. The food is fresh and always amazing. Whether you love Pad Thai or Green Curry, this is the place to go! The soup, appetizers (my favorite is the Chicken Satay, my husband's is the dumplings), entrees, and desserts (yummy fried ice cream) are all wonderful.
