Most Popular Restaurants in Burlington

April 14, 2018 Major Galusha

Vermont's largest and perhaps most cosmopolitan city, Burlington beckons with the perfect blend of old New England charm, arts, culture and nature. Located on the shores of Lake Champlain, between the Adirondack and Green Mountains, Burlington is one of those places you can't help but fall in love with. During the spring and summer, the streets come alive with festivals and outdoor concerts. The picnic benches, playground and bike paths of Leddy Park are filled with warm weather revelers, and opportunities to swim, fish or just kick back on the beach abound. In the fall, the Burlington Bike Path is bustling with leaf peepers who come to view the vibrant autumn colors. In winter, lace up your ice skates and head to the Paquette Arena or grab your skis and head to any of the nearby resorts. Church Street Marketplace, with its early 1900s architecture, great restaurants, live entertainment, one-of-a-kind shops and well-known stores, is the focal point of the downtown area. Anytime of the year is a good time for chocolate. Be sure to stop by Lake Champlain Chocolates for a tour and taste.

This place holds a variety of great foods and they serve breakfast all day. They're all very nice but try to get there earlier than later as they fill up quite fast. The wait staff is nice and are always happy to help. They also sell local art there which is a nice touch.

Disappointing, very slow service from a dour waitress. Ordered the seitan satay and caesar salad. Both were so loaded with sodium/salt that they were inedible. I should have sent them back but the server never came back to check if we needed anything else. Dessert was good and the only redeeming part of eating there. This was the same experience we had the last time we went. I guess since they are one of the few all vegetarian/vegan restaurants in the area, they don't have to try to do better. Just not a good value so we won't be going back.

Casual Vietnamese restaurant that had been recommended a number of times. So glad I finally made it there. Spring rolls and vegetable pho were both fantastic - pho was busting with fresh veggies - it could have easily served two people. Quite a bargain at $8. Very polite and attentive service. Looking forward to making this a regular stop when I'm in Burlington.

We stopped by to try the farm to table selections. It is next to our hotel The Vermont.
The hostess were so friendly and accommodating to seat us comfortably.
We actually had reservations later at another restaurant but decided to have drinks & shared several appetizers.
We had a variety of Vermont beers to try.
The menu changes often we were told but they keep a few favourites like the mushroom toast, beef tartar, house pate. All of which we tried and liked. We also had the grilled cauliflower, roasted beets and 18 oysters. Everything was good.
They had 2 featured dishes that night. A rib eye steak for 2 @ $ 98 only16oz ouch, but they also had a duck breast grilled and it looked FANTASTIC and they were the biggest I ever saw also at about 16-18 ounces. Grown in the Hudson valley region for their breast & foie gras however they didn't any foie gras to try.(those were for NYC)
Next time we should stay for an entire dinner!

Istanbul Kebab House

Turkish food is a true fusion of many different cultures, a collage of different cuisines so to speak. Turkey, geo-physically located as a bridge between Europe and Asia, has been a melting pot of many civilizations since the beginning of history. Once the land of Hittites and the Greeks, it later became the home of the Turks, a nomadic peoples. Therefore, its cuisine is not only a collage of all the cultures that lived in Turkey throughout history, but also a collage of cuisines from all the lands Turks lived before settling in what was then called Asia-Minor. Today's Turkish cuisine is a fusion of Turkic, Ottoman, Greek, Persian, Arabic, Lebanese, and Armenian cooking that can be defined as a true and unique Mediterranean food experience. Turkish food, as most Mediterranean food, relies heavily on appetizers called "mezes" and especially the freshest of ingredients. Although it has many meat specialties, it is predominantly based on fresh vegetables. Therefore, it offers a perfect combination of vegetarian and meat dishes, appealing to a broad spectrum of the eating public.

My husband, son, and I had a terrific meal at Instanbul Kebab House. Throughout dinner we kept exclaiming, “we should eat here more often!” The hummus and lavash bread were perfect starters. The bread was steaming and nicely flavored with black sesame seeds. The entrees were spot on too. I think my lamb stuffed eggplant was the clear winner, but my husband devoured his lamb stew in an earthen ware pot and my son’s kebabs were gone in a flash. Our server was attentive but not the least bit intrusive. Nice decor. Try it!

Been to many other American Flatbread restaurants — this is one of the better ones. Once you enter the unique wooden front door (see picture) the vibe is funky Vermont post-hippie with a tinge of artisanal wood smoke. Not as large as the other AF restaurants but probably more cozy and comfy. Cheerful servers. Great location very near Church Street. Salads and flatbreads are great. Thin crust and a variety of perfect toppings. The oven master really knows how to deliver from the unique AF oven. AF flatbreads are my favorite, especially the veg Revolution. Good selection of craft beer, wines, and soft drinks. For the quality, prices very reasonable.

This little place is hard to find, and ever harder to get a parking spot. However, walk - or crawl if you need to - to visit this neat little diner. The place just oozes history, and each of the menu items has a great story behind them - just ask.

Portions are plentiful, service is very friendly, and the food is fresh and tasty. All of this for a very reasonable price.

TIP: Make sure you take time to chat with Earl, the owner. He's a great sports fan, family man, and font of local info!
