The Glasshouse

Reviewed By BarnabyHilbourne - Kingston upon Thames, United Kingdom

Every part of our meal at the Glasshouse last weekend was brilliant. The greeting when we entered was welcoming and attentive and this went for the service all the way through. Then the drinks menu was varied, good value and delicious when we'd received our drinks too. Then most importantly, the food was excellent. Our ox cheek and polenta starter was tender, generously glazed and very moorish (though a bigger portion would have been great!); my pork was perfectly cooked, pink, and came with a delicious apple sauce and reduced jus, while my partner's venison, with tiny venison pie looked amazing. Both desserts, a chocolate and hazelnut tart and a poached pineapple with pear sorbet were stunning,a s were the petit fours which accompanied the rich black coffee that we finished with. can't wait to go back!

Annie's Restaurant- Chiswick

Annie’s restaurant in Chiswick is the kind of place every neighbourhood dreams of. This home-from-home restaurant has become a local institution, as spot-on for Sunday brunch as for romantic dinners. A stone’s throw from the Thames, its cosy rooms are an eclectic mix of exposed brick, richly-coloured cushions, rococo mirrors and chandeliers. And the menu is the kind that makes you sob with gratitude, filled with dishes that you’d cook for yourself at home if you could be bothered. Start with a salad of halloumi, roast squash, fig and caramelised shallot, then savour the slow roast pork belly with white bean and chorizo cassoulet. Warm, welcoming and satisfying, Annie’s will send you home smiling.

We're a family from Australia, where brunch is one of the 'must-do' weekend activities, but we've struggled to find something comparable in our neck of the woods in London (other than a traditional café).
Look no more - we discovered Annie's! We chose to have brunch here for my birthday, immediately prior to Xmas, so the restaurant was wonderfully decorated - an added bonus. Annie's is quite small - and I didn't realise you could eat dinner here (that's on the cards ...) - and the Xmas menu looked delicious.
I had the Annie's big breakfast - which was sensational, and absolutely hit the mark for my birthday brunch. Kids enjoyed the pancakes. Coffee was also great - the hallmark of any great brunch location.
Do yourself a favour and visit Annie's for brunch (or lunch, or dinner, or whatever ...)

We took our daughters to Chez Lindsay for an early evening meal. The food is Breton - perfect for family eating. The service is pitched just right attentive without being invasive. The girls felt grown-up but spoiled. They loved the crepes and sorbets. We enjoyed fish and crepes suzette. Well worth a visit if you are bored with corporate consistency.

Al Boccon Di'vino is Non Solo Vino

A local institution - no menu, multi course meal, always popular. Don't bother bringing vegetarians. But a most enjoyable and tasty evening for omnivores, albeit a little on the pricey side. Expect to be surrounding by groups celebrating birthdays, and shell out around £75 a head inc. some wine. You won't leave hungry, and you'll get to see a pig's head with an apple in the mouth at your table - a dash of Henry VIII!

Stumbled across this restaurant on a trip to nearby Twickenham. Had pasta and pizza between us, both really tasty, best pasta I’ve had maybe ever!! Atmosphere was good, service fast but not intrusive, reasonable prices, nothing I could fault. Would happily eat here again.

Q Verde

Only six minutes away from the Kew Botanic Gardens, Q Verde is a popular Mediterranean restaurant on Sandycombe Road that has a delightful villagey vibe. Food lovers flock to Q Verde for the wholesome menus and outstanding service, and this family-run restaurant genuinely makes you feel at home the moment you step inside the door. We love the terra cotta coloured walls, black board menus and the general rustic ambience, and the moreish menu is filled with temptations such as the fried chorizo sausage served with crispy rosti potatoes for starters, the fillet of pork with caramelized apples and a Marsala jus for mains, and the traditional tiramasu for dessert.

Booked only last minute but they managed to give us a table for 9 pm. Nice atmosphere when we got there, very busy, but were welcomed and seated straight away. Great service throughout and not hurried even though we had a late sitting and so were one of the last to leave. Excellent artichoke and spinach bake to start and lovely calves liver perfectly pink cooked as a main. My wife had warm calamari on a rocket salad and then pasta with garlic and olive oil nicely seasoned and cooked al dents. Great light panna cotta as dessert. Along with the lovely service made for a very nice evening. Definitely recommend!

Ma Cuisine

Oh so French and oh so charming, Ma Cuisine Bistrot is Kews very own Gallic dining room, where locals and visitors are invited to enjoy rustic French cuisine in delightfully traditional surroundings. In the very heart of Kew Village, close to the train station and local shops, Ma Cuisine Bistrot is situated in the old Post Office with its large arched window and smattering of pavement tables and chairs. Its an attractive space decorated with characteristic red and white chequered tablecloths, dark wood ladder backed chairs, impressionist posters and black and white tile flooring, all bringing to mind those tiny cafes on town squares all over Brittany. Serving high quality food at realistic prices, Ma Cuisine Bistrot is the proud owner of a Michelin Bib Gourmand, awarded for its fresh, delicious dishes of classical and rustic origin. My family and I ate here late afternoon before visiting the Christmas light show at Kew.
This is a small but cosy restaurant, the service was very good and an excellent choice of menu.
Worked well for us eating at 4pm as not all restaurants serve at this time of day.

Sami's Spice

Our group continues to try, and enjoy, a BYOB each month. This was not actually the first choice for the evening, the other one started to charge corkage so a swift change of plans brought us here. It was our lucky night.
Straightforward well-cooked traditional Indian dishes were consumed by all of us with not a complaint in sight. It’s a totally non pretentious place you could easily miss and walk by, facing the old Magistrates Court smack in the middle of Brentford. The town is known for pubs more than food but I think that is changing and the owner should be commended on his fine contribution to the change. I think we had something like 15 dishes between us and not a clunker in them.
Furniture wise and décor could be in any of a million forgettable places, but thankfully rhe food, warm service and nicely full bellies are here for us.
Looking forward to going again soon.
