Had dinner with my sister. Got the chicken and artichoke heart. This is some seriously good pizza. I’m not a huge pizza fan but this pizza was excellent. They don’t skimp on the toppings. Better than even fancy pizza places.

Rosebud's Cafe

Passing through Jackson, stopped for lunch at this charming cafe. Too many mouth-watering dishes on the menu to pick from. I *settled* for their beignets with home made jam, followed by their fried chicken and waffles. OMG delicious!

Our server was simultaneously friendly and professional, with much knowledge about the local history.

As an underwater photographer and ocean conservationist, I very much appreciate that they do not have plastic straws - drinks are served without, and if a guest asks for one, he/she is offered either a paper or metal straw. The staff also takes the time to educate their guests WHY they do not have plastic straws (Single use plastics do not always make it into recycling, more often, they go into the trash, which finds its way into the waterways and then to the ocean. Marine life eat plastics thinking they are food. Humans then consume some of that marine life as food. Plastics are also just littering our oceans. Recycle. Reduce. Reuse. Refuse.).

Margaret's Cafe and Bakery

Reviewed By David R - California

This place is set off to the left side of the casino. It has an open airy feel with a high ceiling and a view of the casino floor. There are old photos on the walls depiciting "Margaret" the casino's founder thru various stages of her successful life. We were seated by a pleasant hostess and immediately offered beverages by a cheerful waitress who introduced herself as "Cheryl". The service was great, so was the food, and the price was pretty fair too. (no sales tax). One thing diners should know; although you cant smoke in the restaurant, the smell of cigarettes can still enter from the casino floor. If you find that objectionable, you should ask for a table near the far wall to be further away from it.

My sweet tooth was aching at the sight of all of that sugar, but they also had sugar-free goodies. I was able to pick up cookie cutters for my daughters, truffles and honey-sticks for me, and hot candy for my hubby. He also got a kick out of all the train parts -- from Lionel to a toddler's wooden train set. Definitely worth the stop.

I've been going to Baskin Robbins since I was a kid, where I developed a certain way I layer my ice cream. Some places get weird when I walk them through it, but not this place. They smiled all the way through, and took good care of my kids orders too. Nice friendly place.

We had dinner here and the service was excellent, the food pretty decent, but pricey, but you can't get there without running the smoking gambit through the casino, even the non-smoking area where ash trays abound and it is not policed. Same for the restaurant, it smelled like stale cigarettes as the ventilation is sucked up the stairway from the casino. I am allergic to cigarette smoke and I have asthma, so it was not pleasant for me.

My wife got the french onion soup which was very good, although a bit too salty for my taste, and the croquettes with scallops was awesome. I had the beer steamed mussels and the prawn fettuccine. The mussels were a tad bitter from the beer and the fettuccine sauce was a little too lemony. Funny thing is I am not that fussy of an eater.

Doubt we would go back due to the smoking, but after all, it is a casino. :)

We ate four days is a row at Element. The restaurant is open only for breakfast, but has an a full menu of interesting options. Many of the offerings included tasteful greens and roasted vegetables. The omelette, deep fried apple fritter, beets with eggs, squash and potatoes with eggs were all great. The offerings were all served quickly, and were tasty and well presented. The young staff was energetic, efficient and friendly.

We were staying at the National Hotel so went downstairs to find a really cool bar with an excellent selection of beer and wine. After trying their excellent bacon-wrapped blue cheese stuffed dates (yes!) we decided to stay for dinner.

The restaurant is a little old fashioned in its decor and it makes perfect sense given the historic location. The staff were super friendly and helpful and the food was really good.

The clam chowder was excellent and the rib eye was flavorful. The baked potato was a little dry as was the sliced beef special but overall we had a good meal.

As full as we were we decided to try the chocolate toffee cake and we're so glad that we did. It was amazing!
