Mariners Restaurant of Ipswich

Within easy walking distance of the town centre, Ipswich's most original restaurant, Mariners, is an antique Dutch customs gunboat, moored along Neptune Quay. You can relax in its wonderful atmosphere and its polished brass ambience. From a quick snack for lunch on the upper deck to a romantic dinner on the lower deck, it is the perfect place for an evening on the sea front.

Really attractive, well established restaurant on a boat on the Quay in Ipswich. The French staff are very attentive, the food, especially the fish, is gorgeous and very well presented. The ambience is busy, but cosy. Perfect in the evenings for a romantic meal for two or a meal with a few friends. A good selection of wines and beautiful desserts. As it was my birthday they had put a candle on my dessert with Happy Birthday written in chocolate, a wonderful touch. A really lovely evening out all round. Thoroughly recommend it.

There seems to be a definite advantage to a family owned and run restaurant. Clearly they run a very tight ship with the owners out front making sure everything runs smoothly. Hard to find fault except with ourselves for ordering so much we could not eat it all!

Maharani

Reviewed By happywiththeirlot - Yeovil

We were well looked after from start to finish. The food was reasonably priced, very tasty and arrived promptly and hot. We enjoyed a chicken biryani, sag aloo and a tandoori mixed grill. Only slight issue is that I asked for no lamb if possible and the waiter taking my order offered extra chicken to compensate. That was marvellous I thought as I am not at all fond of lamb but wanted a mix of chicken and king prawns. When it arrived, there was a minced lamb kebab included in the selection but there was certainly plenty there so I didn’t go without and just left the lamb!
There was so much food that we just couldn’t finish it all. Highlights were the lime pickle that was zingy with lime, the sag aloo and the tandoori chicken in both the biryani and the mixed grill.
Thank you very much.

Not only the location is prime but also they serve excellent dishes with generous portion.Grilled lamb was succulent and tender, croquettes as accompaniment was crunchy outside and meltingly soft inside.
My partner had steak, she said it was also very juicy and cooked to perfection as ordered. No flaw at all. The chief female floor manager(?) was very welcoming and professional, knows how to handle customers.
Atmosphere is agreeable and vibrant, quite pleasant to dine here.
Will be back, simply recommendable.

Zaika

Reviewed By Frank M - Leiden

The first encounter was a bit deceiving. Zaika has two websites, one from the stone ages and one more commercial but half finished. After visitiing another Indian restaurant in Ipswich we had no idea what to expect. But this was quickly turned around. Zaika is, for starters, a nice place with good (not superfluous) decoration. It really is a restaurant. The staff is friendly and attentive and the food is, simply said: good.
We had a lovely onion bahji, a nice chef's special and the mango lassi was one of the best I ever had. The four of us chose, obviously, different dishes and we got a whole ranges of tastes.
Zaika is defintely a restaurant to visit when in Ipswich.

The Greyhound

Reviewed By Thomas D - Ipswich, United Kingdom

Normally a big fan of the Greyhound I called in one week day evening for some dinner and a glass of wine. I definitely chose wrong as on this occasion the food was not up to its normally high ‘pub grub’ style food standard. Choosing off the specials board for coq au vin and also the beef burger off the standard menu both dishes were unfortunately very disappointing. My coq au vin lacked any flavour and was served with little juice or sauce. Considering traditionally this dish is rich and juicy the Greyhounds version was from the tradition. Likewise served with some pretty bland vegetables I without a doubt should have gone with my usual which is the pie and chips. My company had the burger adding bacon and cheese which was served with chips and a leaf of lettuce, again some disappointing scenes and flavours on this dish. I’m not sure what happened as I generally rate this great local pub very highly, but I’ve gotta say I wouldn’t rush back!

I organised a Christmas meal for colleagues and Semra was extremely helpful, contacting me by email and taking payment in advance, so nobody had to be accountant on the night. The price for the Turquose menu was very reasonable with three courses and plenty of choice within that menu - about £23 inc service. Meals were prepared individually according to our advance order. Wine costs upwards from about £18 a bottle, but there was no pressure to buy drinks. I was really impressed with the variety and quality of the shared first course and the attention to dietary needs. Car Parking was a short distance away at the Regent Theatre car park. It made a change from English Food and as someone in our party said, Father Christmas was originally from Turkey. I will go back again with family.

Waterfront Cafe

Arrived at around 10:45 and it was very busy, ordered a big breakfast and a small. The breakfasts were lovely and great value for money, and came within 15 minutes after ordering. The lady behind the till could do with being more friendly. The only criticism is we only got given half a glass of orange juice each, as you can see in the picture I have posted. Before we left, we did buy some bottles of drink as were still quite thirsty. Would be nice next time to have a full glass of drink.
Recommend this cafe to others, as the breakfasts are fab.

Went here for a friends birthday meal. We were in a large party so where we were seated was a bit cramped but evening still enjoyable. The waiting staff serving us were fantastic - polite, happy and friendly! Food was nice but felt choices were rather limited and because we were in a large group we had to pre order our meals where I would prefer to choose on night. It was a pleasant evening and I would go back but not with so many people next time!
