Graskop is a small town in Mpumalanga province, South Africa. It was set up in the 1880s as a gold mining camp but it now serves as a tourist destination and the timber industry. The name is Afrikaans for grassy hillock. “God’s Window”, a scenic view from the escarpment of the Lowveld below, is located outside the town.

Canimambo Restaurant

Being a sea-faring nation the Portuguese were intrepid explorers and among the first Europeans to visit the Cape of Good Hope in the 1500s. In the Colonial era that followed they left their mark in various places on the African continent – Angola, Moçambique and South Africa. From the indigenous people they learnt the usefulness of chilies (piri-piri), which they combined with more traditionally Portuguese ingredients such as olive oil, lemon juice and garlic. Where European Portuguese food is delicately flavoured, Portuguese– Southern African cuisine is fearlessly fiery. Canimambo is a family run restaurant, where you can meet Carla, the Mozambican/Portuguese owner, husband Lance, sons Sean and Wesley, daughters Courtney and Nicole and son-in-law Nando. We pride ourselves in authentic cuisine, friendly service and a cozy atmosphere. Look out for the following when visiting us:The breadbasket: Portuguese rolls are an absolute treat and a meal within a meal. Figados de galinha á piri-piri (piri-piri chicken livers) is a local institution. Use the bread to mop up the lovely juices and you will understand why they never go out of fashion. Batata frita - hands down the South African Portuguese make the best potato chips in the country. Double fried with lots of salt and dollops of vinegar on demand, makes it comfort food in the extreme. Espetada de bife - The Portuguese espetada consists of cubes of perfectly aged rump steak, bay leaves and lemon dipped in course salt before landing on the grill. The natural bay leaf flavour permeates the meat and the salt seals those meaty juices in. Charred on the outside and succulent inside, it’s a steak meal with a difference. Galinha piri-piri (Piri-piri chicken) arguably the most popular dish in South Africa served hot, mild or with lemon butter sauce. Camarão grelhado na brasa (flame grilled prawns), sardinhas assadas na brasa (flame grilled sardines) and ervilhas com chourico e ovos escalfados (pea stew with chourico and poached eggs) are some of the other popular Portuguese dishes on the menu.

Had heard that this place was worth a visit. Only a few people in our group of 25 were happy with the choices. In fact, two people claim they became sick because the fish in their crepes was under-cooked.

As the title of my review says, we tried booking a table here, from a locals recommendation but they never bothered answering their phone. Their menu looks good from the website and apparently they have the best view in Graskop - but unfortunately didn't seem to want our business

We had a great experience at the Riders Rest P&G.
Stopped over for coffee and beers after a couple of hours traversing the Mountains on our dual bikes: there was 5 of us.
We didn´t have anything to eat, but the vibe was great, the company was great (other bikers at the bar) and the owner was very friendly and genuine.
I would certainly make it a regular stop when in the area.

Potluck Boskombuis

The word is out on the town and this little "Boskombuis" is creating wonders and just doing something completely different. Welcomed at the humble boma entrance you are escorted into an unforgettable traditional South African dining experience combined with the most splendid views and lazy, no-rush ambiance. Tucked right up against a gigantic round boulder, is a log fire where most of the food is prepared. To the front, pulling the children with an unseen magnetism, is the Treur river, with its crystal clear water, gently flowing a mere stone's throw away from the dining area. The menu itself is short and to the point, with open flame grilled steaks taking the centre stage. Apparently local "potjie" specialities are prepared over weekends. You need to plan a little in advance, the weather can change easily in this part of the world...do take some warm clothes or a blanket. Potluck Boskombuis has no credit card facilities or mobile phone coverage, take enough cash to cater for a blissful outdoor experience that will leave everlasting memories and make one want to visit again and again....

A quaint little place on the way to Bourkes Luck it is in the middle of nowhere! Off the road, across the river( dirt road), along a trail for a few hundred meters, the restaurant is next to the river.
We didn't stop for a meal but the tables are under cover, the stoves impressive, toilets unusual but clean and the views/ scenery different and pretty.
If you have time on your way to the next stop- stop in!

Spent two nights at the resort. Chalets very comfortable and clean with all necessary facilities. Considering it was July and cold, it would be nice if the resort provided heating. The chalet is very clean but unfortunately the walls between the chalets to the next chalet are very thin so you hear all the voices and noises from teh chalet next door.
Staff is very friendly and helpful. Restaurant offers a la carte and buffet options for dinner and a wide choice. Excellent food and great service in the restaurant and bar.
Wifi is only available in the restaurant and could not login as the staff said too many people in the restaurant were using the wifi. This was a bit of a disappointment. Otherwise the resort is very nice and located close to the major tourist attractions in the canyon.
