I have now been to this restaurant 4 times. The food and service have been consistently good. I have to say they serve one of the better burgers in the area and the sandwiches are great also. This is a great place to eat if you are in the Ashland area. I look forward to going back.

This is a fun new carry out place for sweets and baked goods. We stopped by for a quick visit with our family and walked out with some candied almonds, very good, and even better iced cookies. The staff was very friendly and welcoming and we are excited to visit again for a tasty treat. With a great location on England Street (rte. 54) in the business district of Ashland, hopefully they will thrive.

Three stars this visit. Four of us for dinner. Oyster appetizers were wonderful. Two tenderloins that while tasty did not come as ordered - medium - there was no pink at all. One special, Rainbow Trout stuffed with crab, while delicious (and fully cooked) it came at room temperature, by comparison the steamed greens on the plate were still steaming. The trout was the last one so it couldn't be redone. Scottish Salmon was good. Wine and gin and tonic for drinks. Wine was good for the price, g/t was not so good even with Hendricks - 2nd visit that g/t were a bust.

Service was somewhat of a bust as well this time around. Wait staff clearly acknowledged a drink order yet didn't complete. Wait staff clearly acknowledged request for check but had to be asked again 10 minutes later.

Still a good place to eat but for the price it should have been much, much better. Definitely lower tier restaurant mistakes, hope this was an anomaly.

Serving house-made foods for 35 years something like Gran made in her kitchen. Bread for sandwiches is baked every morning. Enjoy a Turkey roll with sliced Turkey roasted in our ovens and a country ham sandwich that was voted one of the best in Virginia by USA Today. The Crab Cake Sandwich is good too or you can enjoy the best-ever shrimp salad and tuna salad. Vernell bakes deep dish pies daily and the jumbo cookie case is full of selections. Lots of sides to choose from ~~ Branden's Potato Salad, Roslyn's spaghetti salad, cucumber & tomato, black-eyed pea vinaigrette, Christine's deviled eggs etc. etc. Located on the railroad tracks in the middle of historic Victorian Ashland, you can watch the freight and passenger trains on their way north and south. You will be welcomed and treated very well.+

Heaven. Stopped in for a quick lunch because traffic on I95 was a nightmare and now I'm grateful for all the cars. The Hanover Tomato Pie was a thing of beauty. We both had a piece fresh from the oven. I had a succotash side with sweet summer corn. The whole place is darling and all the food was so amazing looking that I wish we'd had a cooler in the car so I could have brought home dinner for the family. All the sweet treats looked so good, but we were too full to indulge. Gonna go back for sure.

Very good and generous paninis. Interesting flavor combos, so they’re not your usual fare. Locally sourced ingredients make the food healthy and economically profitable. The special ale was also really a treat. Speaking of treats we got dessert too. Oatmeal cream “sandwich” and a chocolate chip with a perfect cup of coffee. The interior is funky and artful. You’ll like this place.

BLUF: Great food, reasonably priced, in a bar atmosphere

We were driving home from SC and decided to stop in the area for dinner and to burn some time to avoid the traffic jams that undoubtedly awaited us on the beltway. This place is basically a bar in a strip mall with some outdoor seating overlooking the parking lot. But don't judge it based on its unassuming exterior, because the food and service here was fantastic!
The place was really busy for a Wednesday evening, so that was a good sign. We were seated promptly and the server was just the right amount of attentive, despite her number of customers. The best part, however, was the food. I ordered the shrimp and grits (am I in VA or GA?!) and hubs ordered the shepherd's pie. Both were excellent, but I believe I got the better dish-- those shrimp were huge, and perfectly cooked, and the grits tasted homemade. Yum. We will be back, if I can swing it!

When I arrived in Ashland Monday my family had take-out waiting from a place called Brick Oven Pizza. We had salad, baked spaghetti with meatballs and garlic knots. The baked pasta was a good choice because they could keep it warm in their oven. It didn’t get mushy or dry out. The knots were just okay but the salad was incredible. Most side salads with Italian dinners are pretty run of the mill. Not this one. If I could guess what was the difference I’d have to say it was the olives. I’m not one to go ga-ga over olives but these were delightful. Just having their take-out makes me want to pay the place a visit.

El Azteca Mexican Restaurante

We were traveling when traffic became intolerable. We got off the interstate and opened up TripAdvisor, looking for a place for dinner. This was right off Rte 1 with some good write ups, so we decided to give it a try. We were seated right away and here come the chips, salsa and white sauce. The salsa was finely blended which I prefer, and had a kick. Not sure what was in the white sauce as it was on the sweet side with a bigger kick. Ordered the cheese dip, which was good. Wife had the fried chicken chimichanga and she really enjoyed them. I ordered the chicken rice, which they serve with cheese sauce over top. Chicken was on the dry side and lacked a lot of flavor. I made soft tacos using the 3 flour tortillas and some my wife’s beans. That helped. Everything is cooked with onions and tomatoes, just so you know.
