What better way to start exploring the Mosel than going up to the castle café for lunch and wine. The views of Traben Trarbach and the surrounding area are impressive. The ruins also give you something to climb around on while you wait for your lunch.

Certainly the most enchanting Museum I've ever been to, located in the beautiful Moselle valley town of Traben-Trarbach. 4000 Buddhas from various cultures & countries, displayed superbly in a grand, castle-like setting beside the river, we indulged ourselves for four hours until closing time. Just go and see for yourself, it's a treat for lovers of the Buddha in all forms and sizes, and for those who long for some stillness and perhaps inspiration to live a more peaceful life! There is also a wonderful roof garden. We certainly had four very peaceful and reflective /introspective hours!

Weingut Richard Boecking

If you are able to do a tour and/or tasting here, you'll be glad you did. (Note: opening times are varied and it is best to call ahead if possible).
The building itself is historic, with the oldest portion dating back to medieval times (including an old knight's hall and a chapel). There is tasting area on the ground level, as well as a small, chic tasting room on the second level.
The best part, however, is the wine. We tried several, some of which are imported to the U.S. (And some of which have been selected by Wine & Spirits as top wines from this region). They have a variety of styles of wine, from dry to fruity, white and rose. These are steep slope wines, and some alteraben (old vine) wines, and you can't find better in the region.
Strongly recommend!

The gatehouse on the bridge is the iconic Traben-Trarbach photo. Is it worth traveling here just to see it? Probably not. But if you are in Traben, take short stroll to it, have a look, and take a photo. The constant flow of people and vehicles take away from any ambience

To start out, we walked along the sidewalk near the river. Came to this Weingut and rang the doorbell. It was answered swiftly. I wish I could recall the gal who waited on us, because she was so nice. Really tried talking English with us.
This establishment is renovating, so they will soon have some very cool tasting rooms overlooking the Mosel River.
But for now, we went into a room with many barrels of wine sitting around. Sat around a small round table and she explained the differences of many wines. We bought several bottles and the Wine tasting was FREE. Very good wine and very good service. And this Weingut is Bio to boot.

Several floors of interesting displays and artifacts of this area. Everything from prehistoric to modern times is covered here. There is a 2.50€ entrance fee. An explanatory guidebook is offered in English. The guidebook is organized by room number, however, the actual rooms don't have any number so it was difficult to figure out where we were and what we were looking at. We left early because of this frustration.

We were disappointed to see the fahrrad or bike museum is no longer open. We are not sure what the sign on the door said. Perhaps it will reopen.
