Elmer's Fun Park

Reviewed By Joe C - Brookfield, Wisconsin

,,,there's something to do here. Through the years our family has enjoyed the fantastic go-karting, now with 2 professional-like tracks and hot karts. They also love the horseback riding on 30 or 45 minute trails which take you down to the Wisconsin River's edge. They have battle-boats, sort of bumper cars on water. More recently they've added a rock-climbing wall, trampolines, batting cages for hard and soft ball and a new mini golf course. All activities are closely supervised by staff and at the end of your visit you can visit an on-site ice cream shop to chose among 32 flavors of Wisconsin produced ice cream. Everyone can find something to enjoy here.

We took our 2 year old granddaughter who loves animals. Her favorite part was the bunny cages, maybe because they were so small. She loved feeding the deer too & some of the other animals in cages, but the goats scared her. There were only 3 of them, but they overwhelmed her & fortunately we encountered them as we were leaving (on the way in, she was in her stroller) & they nearly knocked her down even though she wasn't carrying food. There is a vast variety of animals & I'm considering a grandparents membership since we live only an hour or so away. Wear comfortable shoes & bring quarters. Feed machines located throughout cost 50 cents but you can get a small bag when you come in for $5 or 2 for $8 (save the bag for feed machine use). I think animals in cages are not quite as interesting to the toddler set unless they are up moving around. The sleeping bear held no interest for our 2 year old & she loves the bear shows on TV but the chasing foxes she liked. Next year I'm sure will be different for her & she'll appreciate more of the sedentary wildlife as years go by. We stayed about 2 1/2 hours which was right for her, but with older kids, you probably want to stay longer. We did not do the tram ride in the safari area based on another's review. Plus, it is an additional $8, payable @ the tram ride & not included in the entry fee.

Golfed 9 holes (although didn't finish as it started to rain) with a cart late afternoon. Thought it was pricey. For $2 more, can play 18 with cart. Didn't find it particularly challenging course - just enough to make it interesting.

Heart of Vilas County Paved Bike Trails

Reviewed By philkeeling1 - Traverse City, Michigan

We rode from Manitowish lakes to Boulder Junction and the next day from Boulder Junction to Sayner. The trails are well maintained and go through some pretty country. They meander through woodland areas and various parks. Some hills sneak up on you so be ready to gear down fast. Also the trails are not very wide and the signage is not good. There will be a CAUTION AHEAD sign for no apparent reason and then no warning for a 90 degree turn at the bottom of a fast hill. Also no mileage markers. Make sure to get a good local map. Bottom line: Absolutely great trail system but be alert.

Two girlfriends and I signed up for the yoga SUP class. The location is just outside of St Germain and easy to find. Class is at the Cedaroma Lodge. The class lasted about 1-1/2 hours. We were fortune to have a hot spell, so it was fine that the water was a little cool. Two of us had only tried the SUP the day before so we were quite novices but did just fine. Doing yoga on an SUP is definitely challenging but so much fun. I loved that after the class we were allowed to paddle around a bit. We wore swimsuits and though we brought water shoes, it was advised to remove those while doing yoga, which really worked out well. The instructor was very knowledgeable and really helped to make this a great experience. I would do this again.

This campground is amazing. It is part of the Northern Highlands American Legion State Forest in northern Wisconsin. It has 48 sites with double sites, tent walk in only and RV sites. Many are right on the lake front. There are 3 hand pumps for water and 3 toilet facilities. The beach is beautiful and the nature trail is a wonderful walking and hiking experience.
The Boulder Junction Bike Trail connects to this campground for lots of wooded biking on paved trails.

On vacation we like to challenge ourselves with a round of golf here. This year was no exception. The course was in exceptional shape and the staff very friendly. What really impressed me was their support of youth golfers. When we showed up they were having a clinic for kids of all ages which included skills training and a round of golf on their course. There must have been 100 kids. Glad to see them support the community and sports. Kudos to you. It is worth your time to play here. Oh yeah, bring extra golf balls for the narrow fairways.
