Sandringham Beach

Reviewed By ArkBright

A very nice beach-escarpment walk with shrubby vegetation, coastal birds, park benches for somewhere to sit and observe the water, vantage points to take photos, a playground, public toilets, flights of stairs and a very steep ramp down to the beach. Water taps to fill the water bottles and bowls for doggy drinks near the taps. Large expanses of level golden sand for kids to play. Lots of ocean birds observed diving into schools of fish during our visit. Sailboats on the water. A beautiful location for soaking up the sun on the beach, swimming in the clear water, jogging, or simply relaxing with a picnic hamper. Easy access by train. Shops a 5-10 minute walk away. Payment required for car-parking. Suitable for most ages. Difficult access to the beach for strollers and people with reduced mobility. The escarpment walk is also sandy and not suited to strollers. Picturesque location.

I have taken 2 of my grandchildren to play mini golf here a couple of times. It's a fun way to fill in a short space of time with them. My grandson thoroughly enjoys it. He is six and looks forward to our visit each time. My granddaughter is still a bit young, she is four. Next school holidays we will return for another time filling adventure.

Bay Road Heathland Sanctuary

Reviewed By platypus150 - Melbourne, Australia

The Bay Road Heathland Sanctuary is a rarity. There is not much sandy heathland left around Melbourne and this patch is quite large. Opening on Thursday through the year, it also opens on every second Sunday between 10am and 2pm. As the place is run by volunteers it is best to check.
