10 Things to Do in La Digue Island That You Shouldn't Miss

October 16, 2017 Natalie Tallman

Arriving at La Digue feels like sailing straight into a painting, brimming with brush strokes of blue, green and tan. The beaches here are spectacular, particularly Grand Anse and Anse Source d'Argent, which is strewn with pink granite rocks. There are very few cars here, so traveling by bike or by ox cart is the way to go. Pedal over to Ile de Cocos for snorkeling or gawk at the rare Paradise Flycatcher (a beautiful black bird) at the Veuve Nature Reserve.

The tour to Anse Marron is A MUST DO! I would recommend it to everyone.we took Sunny Trail Guides to get there. Robert is just great.
We contacted him thru email and scheduled a date for the tour. The entire way to Anse Marron was very scenic and with Robert as a guide was even more interesting. He served us delicious fruit plate during our 2 hrs stay at Anse Marron.
The trek was exhausting, but totally worth it.

Grand Anse

I’ve seen quite many beautiful Beaches but this is one of the absoutely the best I’ve ever been!Sand is like the flour - White and soft. And it’s very quite, no crowds at all. Bit to get there you need to cyckle a bit:) and there is no reef in the ocean- that’s the only disadvantage of this beautiful beach

It’s really nice and beautyful beach in La Digue. Sandy beach/es surronded by giant stones - it’s something you must see in this island. It’s worth to visit.

Petite Anse

You can get to Petit Anse along a signposted trail from the beginning of Grand Anse. You do have to go over rocks over the hill but it take about 15-20 minutes.
There are some shade huts on this beach which is better than Grande Anse.
The waves are really rough though and there is a strong waves and undercurrent, so you need to be aware of the danger of the sea here. Ask the person at the juice hut on the beach - he has had to rescue about 25 people and he was unable to save one person recently as two people got into trouble at the same time. He seems to be aware of when it's a bit safer but I still wouldn't swim here.

Coco Island

If this were anywhere else it would be an outstanding place to visit, but there are just so many other great places I don't think it deserves the hype.
We visited independently on a charter yacht and we hadn't even secured the boat to the mooring when the park rangers were on us for payment. £25 a visit is a bit steep. We only stayed a relatively short time. The snorkelling is good, but not as good as on neighbouring Islands and there are stronger currents.
Get the timing right as well to avoid too many day tripper boats.

Anse Patates Beach

Reviewed By Unelma333 - Karlsruhe, Germany

Anse Patates is a small bay just at the top the island, situated beside a hotel. It is not private though, and you can get drinks and food if you wish. Anse Patates is beautiful, visually one of my favourites in the Seychelles. However, it was absolutely impossible to swim or snorkel here in June because of the large waves and strong currents. It was also very crowded compared to the size of the beach. Still, a lovely stop while biking around the island.

Anse Severe

Reviewed By 2016msm - Cape Town Central, South Africa

I went on a bicycle tour of La Digue and sadly, it was raining so visibility wasn't what I'd hoped for, but Anse Severe was still gorgeous. As with most Beaches on La Digue, the clean white sand was strewn with granite boulders and framed by several three-mast ships moored in the harbor.
The beach has facilities for drinks and a small bar. It's a safe beach with shallow water and coral reefs that are fantastic of snorkeling.

Our second time here on a boat snorkelling trip and it is very good with plenty of different fish species to see and feed as you swim among them. Unfortunately most of the Coral is dead so its difficult to imagine what will happen to these places in the future.
